  • Tyre size query - noob inside

    Hi guys

I am pretty new to the whole game of low and different wheel and tyre fitments so I hope someone may be able to assist me.

    I live in South Africa and drive a 4 door mk5 R32 Golf. I recently purchased a set of FK Konigsports and a set of staggered 3SDM wheels , 18" 8.5J ET42 front and 18" 9.5J ET40 rears.

I was told to fit 215/40/18 tyres all round so that I can get low enough and have a good looking fitment , however 215/40/18 is really difficult to get here and the only ones available are Toyo Proxes 4 at $125 each or Falken 912s at $200 each.
I tried the Toyo Proxes 4 but the shop couldn't get them to seat using a cheetah / bead blaster and have since tried selling me a 225/40/18 or a 215/45/18 tyre.

Are they doing it wrong , should we rather look at the fire or bicycle tube methods for fitment or is there another tyre size I can try?

    Thanks
    Grant

I feel like this is the result of one of those "what tyre should I get" threads

That size will fit so try another tyre shop but then do some research of your own so you know what's going on. You'll be in this situation a lot if you keep taking the easy (not easy in the long run) way out

Also tyre choice is usually for a reason and you might find that going with a wider width will not fit under you arches so seriously son, do some reading/measuring and work it out

Sorry , you're definitely right , this definitely is one of those easy way out threads.

I have never dealt with anything "stance" oriented as I have generally only been focused on track type performance. I have just been losing my mind trying to source the 215/40 that I know will work.

Don't suppose you have a link to a great guide / FAQ type thread, or is that the easy way out again? Lol
