  • How to lift off brake dust from polished inner barrels

    Hello

I covered my wheels in 3 layers of Poorboys wheel wax and had the wheels on for about a month. I finally got around to taking them off yesterday to clean them and used some Dodo Juice ph neutral wheel cleaner.

It did an ok job but it's just not doing anything to what remains:

I've sprayed it on a couple of times and just given it a once over with a soft brush so nothing abrasive.

I'm aware of metal polishes like Brasso make but I assume this is for once you've got all the dirt off? Or will it lift the brake dust off as well? I'm not going to work a polisher in if it's not going to lift the dust off.

    Thanks.

OK... My friend dives an '04 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro, Moro Blue. I'm pretty much the car care guru around my neck of the woods, but I wanted to run this past everyone before I start my next project. The Audi unfortunately has several hairline scratches and small (dime size) abraisions that...

Thanks that stuff looks really good. I read some reviews on the net and will order a bottle. I'll post up how I get on. Cheers.

wow i had no idea black surfaces repelled brake dust... Might have to write that one down.

i hand polish my inner barrels with a small amount of mothers polish every other month and it comes to a mirror every time.

Tried the Iron X. It did ok the first time but I since learned that the wheels should've been dry before putting it on again.

After another attempt I tried claying instead. With some patience it worked really well. The finish is smooth to the touch but discolouration is still present.

I assume it's time for some metal polish now?

easy off oven cleaner destroys any brake dust residue. I always use it before i split wheels normally. this lemon smellin cleaner with a nylon scrubbing brush crazy cleans with very little effort. spray....30 secs....scrub....hose off...clean

i wouldn't recommend getting on painted surfaces, i havent seen it do any damage but i still woulnt get it on the paint

Give Killerwaxx metal polish a try. I use all of their products and they are AMAZING. I'll be using it when my wheels are done being built. Mine will have polished inner barrels as well. Here is a link to their facebook and a few of the distributors. I think a 16oz bottle is around $20
