  • What are my options here? (RS bolt content)

Alright so I knew that I was taking a chance running my RS's up to Cincinnati, but I was pressed for time and decided to go with it anyways. Looks like it came back to bite me though. I got back in town after being gone for a week and a half and saw this, along with what appears to be some oxidation on the lips. I was planning on pulling the bolts and soaking them in some Coke, but I'm not sure if that will remove what I've got going on here.

Looks like I might be going back to the OZs for a little bit and refinishing the RS's with some new lips and bolts.

Lots of elbow grease, Lime-a-way and/or Coke should get rid of that.

fuuuukkkk good luck with that. looks like you'll have to pull them apart and repolish the lips at least. Hopefully the oxidization isn't bad that you have to do any sanding to clean it up. For the bolts, when I had mine, I either soaked them in varsol or vinegar for 2 days (yes I know theres a huge difference between the two but I forget which one it was now)

I had my bolts sandblasted then powdercoated gloss black to go with my centers. It was super cheap too since at the time I couldn't afford to buy a new set of bolts.

This might be a dumb question, but assuming my wheels are properly sealed, could I remove the bolts without having to dismount the tires?

I seen it done before, but wouldn't recommend it. If you do, make sure your tires deflated.

yea man you can, but just like wheel fetish said, deflate the tire. I did that to my equips and they never gave me any problems. but as for the bolts, if they are rusting now then they probably will again. id try to get them powdercoated so that they have some type of protection.

While they're off I'm gonna hit them with some clearcoat to seal them. I've read about some people using brass wheels to get rid of the surface rust, so after soaking them in some coke that's what I'll do. I figure while I'm at it I'll just go ahead and refinish them though. I'm worried the lips are gonna be in pretty rough shape after this week too.

wd-40 and steel wool (high grit) and some elbow greese will take that right out...you probably wont even need to take the bolt out

pb blaster or wd40. When I did my style 19s I just used a punch to get them out, but RS bolts are different.
