  • Opinions on Wheels for next season

Alright, i need your help guys/girls to see opinions on my wheel decision for Next show season.

The Car in Question: my 1990 Nissan 300zx. please dont mind the not so hot HIN models.

currently running BBS RS-GT 19x8.5 and 19x10 et35. almost flush but a bit boring. I have been running them for about three years, and need a change. just for reference, just about every aspect of the car has been modded/improved over the last seven or so years, but it has been in the family since new and currently has 60k original miles on it. going for the clean minimalist look.

Alright here is where the decision comes in.

I have been working out a deal with Kranson forged for a set of Klassics in 19x9.5+10 and 19x11+18. mirror polished stepped lips and flat grey textured centers. similar to shanes g coupe. hope you dont mind me putting up a pic of the wheels shane

poke all around on my car with camber adjusted to -3.5 all around approx. and stretching 235/35 and 265/30 on these wheels.

Positive: awesome wheels simple classic design.. contrast with my car should be on point

    OR

I have the opportunity to build a set of BBS RS 285 fully custom. Have the faces, and am getting new barrels and 3.5" front lips and 4.5" rear lips radinox SS. final size will be approximately 18x9.5 with et around 10 and 18x11 et around 18. will poke a bit and i will be stretching tires and slamming the car more then it is now. Custom lips are being discussed at the moment but they will be amazing. double beveled lips
Faces are going to be powdercoated flat white with a pearl in it, and mirror polished lips and inner barrerls.

just an example pic of 18s. i photoshopped the lip design with the double 45* beveled lips.

Positive= i get to design and build these custom myself on my own time, and custom one off lips that are huge
Negative= 18s. i like the diameter of my current 19s on my car, but am not at all opposed to 18s

    Opinions appreciated

you already have the centers for the RS's? providing they are not the 16" centers I would talk to Image wheels and get them to make you 19" barrels/lips for them. You're already dropping baller cash on 18" lips, why not get step up a size for something really crazy custom.

the main issue is that the 18" centers (285) that i got my hands on have a center diameter of 13". apparently all 17" and 18" RS have a 13" center diameter with only a few exceptions. I am having a hard time getting them to upsize to an 18" outer diameter, nevermind a 19". The way i want to do it at least. i am asking them to put in (2) 45 deg bevels which they are not sure they can do just to get it to fit an 18" tire. But it might be worth a shot to see if i could get them to upsize to a final diameter for a 19" tire. The issue is that the lip might completely take over the wheel look wise.

This is the original of the lip that they produce. my main complaint is that the area by the bolts looks horrible as it is much too large and vertical. makes the face look tiny. my bevel there will make it look like a gradual step to the center, and will look much more like the original BBS

either set is going to cost me a ton, so i just need to decide which will be cooler for next season. both will look good, but i just cant decide which is a better route.

I'm going to be a bit biased as to my opinion on which direction you should go since my set of kranson forged are currently getting built

but if you go the RS route, im not a fan of double bevels, i would instead do one bevel at 45 deg, but a longer bevel, like mikes 18" rs's.

^I'm surprised you guys were actually able to get ahold of anyone from Kranson.....just a heads up, be very very patient and don't expect any info/updates, and if you got step lip prepare to wait ~3-4 months -___-

the lips are going to be too large to get just 1 45 degree bevel on the RS. the rears are going to be 4.5" deep, where does the rest of the lip go? 3.5" flat and then a bevel? i was going to get the standard double step no 45degree angles to get it up to 18", but they dont seem to do that any more either.

I have been dealing with kranson for a while, but their customer service really sucks which is why i thought of other ideas. i really love that setup that i worked out, but im semi hesitant to pay them, as they take 2 weeks to respond to my calls and emails every time. Shane warned me that their customer service was lacking, but it almost seems that thy dont want my business. not happy as i love their wheel design on the klassics.

what wheels are you getting from them btw? did you see any of the new designs that they "were showing at SEMA"? i didnt see any pictures of them.

Tell Carlos to get his ass in gear. I'm not to sure what their deal is, but they have great designs and could do really well, it's a bit disappointing to see the name is getting tarnished due to their lack of enthusiasm .

hes trying to do to much, run the shop, the wheel line, the body shop. I've been toying with the idea of helping him with customer service stuff. I might run it by him and see what he thinks. He's a good guy, and you can tell he really loves wheels, he's just retardedly busy.
