  • Protecting style 5 lips and bolts

    Hi,
I am currently in the process of stripping the paint/rust of my style 5 bolts in acetone and vinegar. I am probably going to polish them with steel wool afterwards.

I was wondering if there was a way to prevent them from rusting by using some sort of clear coat or sealant? I am scared that the clear coat won't hold up, and I am not willing to pay for a powder coat since this is a diy.

Also, what product do you guys use to protect the lips? Can you use any kind of wax? I've heard of poorboys wheel sealant but they don't sell it in Canada -_-.

Finally, what torque spec should I torque the bolts back in? There's different numbers everywhere.

    Thanks in advance!

Here's my thread. I got a couple recommendations but still looking for more input.

        The poorboys's stuff looks promising.

As for the bolts, if rust is showing through the finish is already damaged. If you want to have bolts that look mint and ready for paint pick this up-

I promise you that sifted play sand works amazing. I used this blaster with a little pancake compressor on my wheel faces and my buddy used it on his style19 bolts. Both look outstanding. I painted his bolts gold with no clear and only a couple had some small nicks after assembly. Nothing that cant be touched up with a q-tip.

As for the lips. Jasco will eat the oem clear right off and you will be able to wipe it right off. Follow the polishing alum thread, depending on the condition of your lips you be the judge as to which grit to start with. Follow up with this-

Then when you have a desired polish keep a coat of wax on them if you want some protection. Any wax will do. Caranuba wax gives you a show shine but is softer and less durable than say a turtle wax hard shell. Experiment with what gives you the desired look. You can't really mess them up.

Use sharkhide to protect the lips=) You won't have to do anything but wash them for at least 3 years=D
