  • How do I get rid of this stuff?

Apologies if something like this has been posted before...I haven't checked :P

Started to refurb my wheels in hope to sell them and get a little money for the car.

I've started with 80grit (They're in pretty bad condition, but you'll see that soon) But it doesn't look like it's really doing anything. Do I keep sanding? I don't want to be here for days!

Just gone up to 180 to see if it would do anything and it hasn't. Not surprised.

So what can I do about this?

    Cheers guys

just keep sanding, it's a (very) slow process, if your wheels are in too bad condition deep scratches & etc. you can stard with 60grit, after that you can use 120, 200, 500, 800, 1000 and then wet sand till 2000-2500, after that polishing with some sh*ts and you're ready...

or find a polisher. I dont have the time anymore, and the professionals have many more tools to get the job done in half the time.

Truth posted above... I am a huge fan of doing it myself, but for a little more then the cost of the amount of sand paper you will go through on 4 wheels, you can pay a metal finishing shop to do it, or just start with media blasting, it leaves a nice clean, even surface to base a great polish off of.

Thanks guys. I've gone back to the 80 and I'm beginning to see a slight difference! I'll keep going.

Cheers fellas. I have thought about getting them blasted and I probably should, but I have no spare cash to spend on them. Hence why I'm selling them!

Just noticed your reply man. Thanks. My dad has a small sand blaster that might work? Or is the sand too harsh for the wheel?

Depends, but normally sandblasters are to harsh.
                    Glass or soda ftw.

To be honest, you can start wetsanding way earlier, probably at 220 or 400, it makes things a lot easier. But yeah, keep at it with the 80 I guess.

Just remember the harsher grit you use, the more it will take to get the fine sanding lines out.

Have you got any drill attachments or are you able to get the car on jacks and pikey style it?

Thanks man. I think it's only sandblasters around here!

Yeah, but after the 80, I should have a clean surface :P

I used a wire wheel on mine to get rid of a lot of these pitting marks, theres flap wheels, also have a set of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bench-Grin...item45ff8cb73d

Not exactly that, paid like £26 quid.

Yep, I have a few wire wheel attachments and flap discs for the angle grinder...but I think i'll stay clear of that Reckon I should have a bash with the wire wheel then? Then 80 paper and so on.

Thanks for the link, I'll look into getting a kit
