  • Upsizing rims to bigger barrel

Does anyone know how to up size steel wheels? I know it's possible but can't find anything about it.
I have 14" factory steel wheels that came on my 72 car. I want to make them wider and go to a 15. I was gonna get 15" barrels cut the centers out of my 14's and weld them back into the 15" barrel.
The inside of the 15" barrel is 12.8"s and the center on the 14" rim is 12"s. so .8"'s have to be made up. Or I guess half that so .4" Any ideas?

That seems like a lot of work. Why not just buy wider steelies?

Honestly not worth it for how much you will pay to have someone do that

Well I liked the centers of the orginal wheels, and kind of wanted to keep the old style but revamped.
I was planning on doing it myself, most old rims centers are held in by spot welds or a few beads on the inside. 15x8" barrels can be for $40 a piece. Level up the centers to the barrels and balance them.

they do not enlarge wheels, they dont even enlarge lips.

they narrow or widen barrels or the inside portion of the wheel.

                . . . yes, that will work . . .

seriously, even only widening steelies needs a lot of equipment and skill . . not something you should attempt to do at home . .
