Ok Jaze, we can go round and round about this. You can do ^ to a style 5 too.
Again, just dont think they should advertise those as 3 piece wheels

you can actually still spilt the welded ones, so they arent fake splits. its just alum not RTV.
here's a an example of a wheel that was welded, then separated.

the difference is that 3 piece wheels that are welded have a visible bead where they were welded like those ARE RS's look a likes and some even have solder that can be heated to separate them. 2 piece wheels are a solid barrel like style 5's.
Just think of the welded bead as the sealant. They are constructed of 3 separate pieces, then bonded.
this is a 2 piece wheel barrel, no seam, just one piece. similar to a style 5.

I mean by that measure, pretty much all 2 piece wheels including Style 5's are "3 piece wheels". Most of all of 2 piece wheels I have seen or worked on were built this way.

My problem is the above 3 wheels are advertised as 2 piece wheels.
I just think it is crazy for SSR to advertise the SP1s or any of their other "3 pcs" wheels as such.

Bolted 3 piece wheels aren't used on race cars because they are strongest, but because part replacement is easier. A lot of street wheels start out at 3 piece and are welded for strength, they don't care whether or not the customer can put bigger lips on them in 15 years.

But on the real I'm sure if you call work and order custom wheels and ask them not to weld them into a 1 piece wheel they wont

Actually, I wont ever look at buying NEW SSR wheels now because of this thread and if it wasnt for a dead-beat company, I would have SSR SP1s on the E30 M3 right now. I actually ordered and paid for them and it took me 7 months to get my money back.
Call up BBS or Work or Rotiform............ ask them what a 3 piece wheel is. Then ask them what a 2 piece wheel is.
Your right, my opinion doesnt mean shit but when 95% of the wheel industry will agree with me, then I know a little more than you think.
For example, BBS LM - 2 piece wheel. Built like a 3 piece wheel, then BBS welded the barrels and lips together with the face separate. Hence 2 PIECES. (unless they are like the ones on my car)
My SSR Formula Mesh wheels are 2 piece wheels. How did SSR get that right? The barrles and lips are welded together.................
To go off SSR's thinking, the SP1s are actually 29 piece wheels. 1 lip, 1 barrel, 1 face, 25 bolts and 1 center cap. Should we add in the valve stems too?

It is kind of weird but I do get why the welded it to cover their own ass.

just hover your mouse on the 3pc logo above the wheel image.
same goes for any of they're 3pc designed wheels. depending if the face is top mounted, the face may be removable.
