  • Maximum Spacer Size, Was I Crazy?

After discovering Stanceworks I decided to pick up on a project I stashed away many years past. A wide body rally inspired Celica ST165.
    A long time ago...
When I abandoned it I had just started on the stance, I found the rims I wanted old Volk rays engineering 16 inch. Then I had some spacers made up, 3 inch in the rear and 2 inch on the front. CNC machined, they are completely hubcentric and fit like a glove.
When I did this work I was young, living way up north in the Yukon. I had a vision of the car I wanted and I went about my work with abandon and little sense.
    Was I nuts?

    I was distracted entirely with a '87 BMW M6

Now I am back up North and I want to get this car tearing through the snow, should I continue down my path or is it a folly best avoided?
I started mocking up the flares already...

    3 inch spacers? Damn

As long as you're not tying to run 3in longer studs/bolts I think you should be OK

There are many cheap wheels in 15-16in that have low offset though

So, you had wheels that fit without spacers. Then you got massive spacers (have fun, bearings) and your wheels don't fit.

Is this what you wanted? Is this what you had in mind?

If you're crazy, then I'm crazy too I guess. I've been running 2.5" and 3" hub centric spacers front and rear on my supra for almost a year now. Never had any problems with wheel bearings burning out or torsional stress on the mounting points/suspension thus far. I don't baby the car either. As long as the material and manufacturing processes are up to par, you should be okay (If you drive your car off a cliff though, don't quote me on that).

I went to U.S. Wheel Adapters and purchased mine from Doug Boss (he's the co-owner I think?).

        www.uswheeladapters.com.

Also ask about Adaptec. I don't have any experience with them personally, but I'm sure you could ask on here, since they're forum sponsors.

        good luck!
