  • The Infamous Spare

Since I get a ton of people asking questions about the spare I built for myself a little over a year ago, I thought I would write up a little feature on my blog specifically about the spare tire that gets so much attention. There is some info on the inspiration, technically how it works, and a little of the details.

heres my blog. lots of projects i have been up to, lots to come..

I think the feature link directly is http://www.spinfab.net/2012/01/11/the-infamous-spare/

    enjoy!

oh and if someone wants a direct replica of it, i also have a built 4x100 spare with a 135/70/16 tire, that i just need to put together. it would be epic for someones project.

Really clever, especially using the low offset to clear the brakes entirely. Nice work.

at the moment i am on the lookout for a red/gold bbs logo cap for the wheel if anyone has an extra they will part with

heres a crappy picture of the back of the wheel from before i disassembled and changed it up the past time.

I just put up an exact copy of the wheel for sale. if someone wants it, let me know. you will have your choice of color and finish for the center, cap, bolts, etc. It is a 4x100 wheel too, so lots of the e30/vw crowds should jump on it, as it will likely be the last one i create.

thank you. from industrial designer to industrial designer, I try to constantly have lots of projects in the works, the blog above is the easiest way for people to see some of those works, as they come to life..

website is going to come in a little time, so i can put up the work that happens over multiple disciplines on a daily basis, as the fields are quite different, but the overlap is something that is very interesting to me.

As a strange question, where did you get the "spike" bolts from? I've had a hell of a time trying to locate a reputable supplier for them...

i got the spike bolts imported from pertsch and partner i believe, in stainless steel, and then had them 24k gold plated here by my plater. hex cap obviously went through the same treatment.

i have 68 black gold spike bolts sitting on a shelf in my garage if you are in need of some. I will sell them if need be, as i have no real use for them currently. its not enough to do a whole set, but would be perfect for someone who wants to stagger the bolts or do one side of the car one way, and the other side different
