  • 16x10 Gotti 5-spoke refurbish

Picked up a set of wheels from a local guy on Craigslist. They are 3 piece 16x10 +32 Gotti J55A's in 5x120. I'm not sure if I'll put them on the e36 but I've wanted to do a wheel project for a while now and with this it worked out perfectly. Onto the pics!

    When I first got them.

They make an awesome night stand.
      Bedside manner

So the first thing I did was take them apart. 32 bolts x 4 wheels w/o an air ratchet meant forearm cramp...
      Seperated

Then I moved onto the lips. They were really dull but didnt look too bad. I planned on sanding with 220, 400, 800 1500 etc. and then buffing using different compounds. Just out of curiosity I tried using a rag and some Mother's mag and aluminum polish on a little spot for 30 sec. Here's what it looked like.
      Wheel lip

Soo needless to say it turns out I didnt need to go about all the extra work I planned on. Here's a finished lip next to an untouched lip. And again, this is with ONLY a towel, Mother's mag polish and a LOT of elbow grease.

Great work man! I love those wheels. I recommend you to machine polish them because the shine will last longer when the pores are closed. You'll also have less work keeping them clean

Are you gonna use different bolts to reassemmble the wheels? Those original ones look awful...

Just curious what you mean by machine polish? And yeah I probably will.

Update on the wheels. Got the faces back from the powder coating shop. Oregon powder fab did an awesome job. Went with a silver that matched the standard stock bmw wheel silver.

Didnt feel like ordering new bolts so I went ahead and sprayed the spacers with silver and a clear coat.

Torquing 32 bolts per wheel is a pain in the ass!

                    One wheel back together

Well I thought about that but I figured they were there for a reason and didn't want to mess with the manufacture's plans... Might try and find some smaller washers.
