  • What is everyones favorite wheel sealant

About ready to seal my new wheels here pretty soon and im just wanting some opinions from people who have done it.
This is will be my first time, so i dont want to mess it up and certainly dont want any leaks.
Ive seen some DIYs online so im aware on where to seal them.
But was wondering if it is ok to add a bit in between the bolts, just for like extra security???
    so yea, lmk.

    heard of Silkaflex 221

whatever you do, do not put any between the bolts. and make sure you torque your bolts down first to i think 15ftlbs if i remember correctly.

and i think for the most part any rtv should work fine. some people use red, clear, black etc, i personally used permatex ultra black and its working great so far. after you clean the surface up, tape around the wheel with masking tape on both the lip and barrel side, lay a nice bead of rtv around the rim, lightly run your finger around the bead to smooth it out and then let it cure for 24hours.

the wheel at the top is bbs rs.

but you can do a 3 piece style 5. it would just cost you a lot of money. you would have to buy 4 barrels, 4 lips, and all the hardware... then just bolt the style 5 face to the lips/barrels.

but at that point you might as well have real rs's,

          ^^Great advice

I use black RTV and bolt lock glue. Can get it all at Walmart or Lowes. Making sure to spread the RTV in the V between the lip and barrel was the hardest part for me.

QFT this is what I have been using.

BTW do most of you just put a thick single bead on the wheel after assembly, or do you put a bead between barrel/face, bead between face/lip, then a bead on the seam after assembled? (On a standard 3pc sandwich wheel). I have been doing the later, but I have heard people doing just a single fat bead and not having leaks.

At work I've done a few three piece Asantis that came in with leaks and required a rebuilding, I use black GE sealant and put a bead between the two barrels and the face, tightened down the bolts evenly and then ran a bead around where the two halves meet. Didn't have any leaks afterwards.

I did my first set a few months back, and used a good quality roof and gutter silicone(at the recommendation of a plumber mate), I used black as I had my barrels powdercoated black, but would use clear otherwise. He said Sikaflex is a nightmare to work with and much harder to undo/get off if I wanted to ever redo them.

I personally dry assembled mine, then put a bead in the corner where the barrel meets the wheel centre and also where the lip meets the wheel centre, let cure, then did another over the middle. Maybe overkill, but I have no leaks and it looks very neat.

GE has a aluminum silicone sealant that I've used on 5 different sets of BBS wheels and have never had an issue. Costs $5 at Lowes, silver in color.

                              I followed this guide.

I should have layed down a layer of tape on top, but didn't for some odd reason. Anyway, it came out alright I think. I used Permatex Ultra Black RTV Silicone Gasket Maker.
