  • 3 pc. wheels tolerance is too tight

Has anyone else had experience with wheels that the face is toleranced too tight to the barrel.. so much so that they are next to impossible to separate and even harder to get back together?

wheels in question are SSR vienna dishes (mounting order face, lip, barrel)

I have to put the face in the freezer and heat the barrel with MAPP gas, then proceed to line up and jump on the face.... The problem is that I was off by a mm, and now I cant get the wheel back apart. Cant heat the barrel with the torch because it will ruin the powder coating.

    IDEAS????

Sounds like the powder coat might be the source of your problem?

Yup, powdercoat adds a few mm. You need to take the orbital to the edges and remove the powdercoat from them and it should fit better.

sick.. i love white wheels./ just hard to keep clean because of the brake dust!

I love SSR always have. totaly sick that you refinished them less blingy in that clean white

          nice

as far as the problem your having, Ive been there and I am struggling to get apart a set of wheels right now.. once they are apart I figure the sanding or a file would be best option to get them back together

          white is a hard choice..

Defo the powdercoat is your problem.

I rebuilt some OZ Futuras, 3 pc. Powder coated lips, faces and barrels. No way were they going back together so i had to sand all the mateing surfaces back down to metal so it all went together.

well the problem is that they are now togther.. but the holes are off by 1mm.

I need ideas on how to get them apart with minimal damage. You can jump on the face all you want and it doesnt do anything

when I get the face off this time I will definitely sand it down to metal where it needs to

well, I was able to get it apart!
a sledge hammer and some concentrated force was what it needed
(this ideally wasnt my first method of choice because I didnt want to damage anything)
I think I lucked out though

                          Glad youre sorted man.

I wouldve put screwdriver in hole and levered to one side so the lip spins until holes are aligned. Dodgy as fuck but would probably done the trick.

I tried that, but it just wouldn't budge.

Thanks for all the advice the guys... will put picture in my "build" thread when they are on the car
