  • huge stretch and stuck

Well i just got my wheels back from my friend over at honda and he couldnt get the tire to seat, even with a cheetah, tons of lube and a few helping hands....

The tires are toyo's 195 45 15, the wheel is 15x10, the drop center on the steelies should be farely easy to work with, he even ratchet strapped it....

Does anyone know someone in Pa know anyone my way who stretches tires or does anyone have another solution....

And yes i've seen this combo done before so its not impossible

    All input appreciated guys

ive done several of tires, all by my self. using starter gas.
the cheetahs are not as good in my opinion. what you need to do is, i copied this from my other thread.

I mounted the tires myself, and those that are having a hard time getting tires to stretch. i know a method that works every time for me, and normally on the first try.
i have no pictures of this, or video since i was by my self. but you want the tire to sit on a angle. kinda hard to explain but were the valve is, you want the top of the tire sitting op against the rim, and the other side want the tire to lay down the bottom of the rim so the tire sits at an angle. if its done this way, it leaves a gap on the other side were the valve is.
now its time for spraying some starter gas into the wheel, Do Notover do it, it takes a very little amount of gas to make it pop up. i normally do it this way, were the gap opens on one side, i start spraying and start moving quickly to the other side were the gap closes spraying all the time, then i move back to the middle of the gap, and start spraying up on the tire down to the tread of the tire, this is were i set fire to the starter gas, you will see the fire going up the threads towards the gap, and the tire will pop up, when the tire pops up you will need to start putting air in the tire so it seats against the rim. its critical to time it correct and voila the tire is on.
by the way, if you read all of this jibber jabber. i hope it makes sense. since im hungover from last night. and having a hard time putting words down.

have you tried multiple guys pressing down on the tire as the wheel spins? kinda are to explain but it has worked for me on some occasions.

          Rough Explaination:

1- mount one side of the tire as you usually would
2- lube the bead to help reduce friction
3- make sure the bead is under the "duck head"
4- have somebody press dont on the tire roughly on the 3'o clock position
5- spin the tire clockwise making sure the bead is still under the "duck head"
6- as soon as the first person pressing down reaching the 6' o clock position have another person pry down at the 3' o clock position
7- from here you want to make sure you go with one full spin ( meaning you cant stop half way while the wheel is spinning) * but beware about the bead ripping since then the tire would be useless afterwards

may help may not but its worth a shot?

Leave the tires in the sun let em warm up, or a warm room in the house then use starting fluid, has worked for me every time.

the problem im having with starting fluid is that the inner lip of the tires are very narrow in comparison with the wheel

( when one side is seated there is around a 2-3 inch gap fromt the inner tire the the wheel drop zone)

i'll get the tires really warm and try it again

Ah! I have insight on this problem.
                    Here's how I do it:
First, stand the wheel/tire up in an old tire, so it holds it in place to some extent.
Next, position the tire centrally on the wheel.
After that, hook up a locking air chuck to the valve stem so that it's constantly blasting air into the tire.
Finally, air up the Cheetah and blast that bitch from the opposite side of the valve stem!

It's definitely easier with 2 people, of course. I work at a tire shop, and this is the method I've used each time to seat 195/45s on my 10s. So far, the most tries a wheel has taken is 2, so hopefully it works as well for you!

Let me know if you need anything cleared up. I just kind of ran through it in my head as I typed. Haha

Well, I still haven't gotten an alignment due to me being lazy and not putting all of the new bushings and such in, but even with the rear toe out of whack and stupid amount of camber, I got like 7,500 out of the last pair. The fronts still look glorious, somehow!
