  • Running Sandblasted centers....

Rebuilding a set of wheels and I'm considering just sandblasting the centers and leaving them as is.... thoughts?

    Should I clear coat them?

That's how my wheels are, bead blasted though, and I just use poorboys wheel sealant on them

This stuff? So every time you clean them? Also what did you do for your centre caps? Mine are plastic so they won't really be the same finish...

Yeah that stuff and yeah everytime I clean the car, which is hardly ever. I have black centre caps so that didn't matter, don't know what you've got but black or a matching silver would be best

I did it for the textured finish and when you clean them up nice it's kind of sparkly

i have seen some pretty dope wheels that were media blasted, and or shotpeened. if the finish comes out pretty even, it may look really good.

post up some pics of the progress.. would like to see what these look like after you blast them.

Here's what mine came out like. Photo doesn't really show the amount of texture it actually has in person but came out even and shit doesn't get trapped in the hollows which I was afraid of

Ya, I wanted a flat silver look and after I blasted them I was totally sold on the look.

I'm guessing applying the sealant after they're built is fine. I need to assemble them tonight to give the RTV time to set before I mount tires on them on Saturday for a show here on Sunday......

I found once i had done all the rubbing and sanding down to the bare metal i used a very fine wirewhool and then a clear sealer wax for the finish, but ive been told RimWax is a really good wheel sealer for rims so once ive got some spare cash im going to try it.

No clear, just raw blasted with a coat of poorboys every now and again. If you do what slimadi is saying you won't have the textured surface. I'll try find a better picture to show the actual amount of bumpyness, looks cool imo
