  • Excessive sidewall rubbing

Hey guys, I was wondering if i rub alot on the sidewalls with my fenders do I risk of wearing through the rubber and eventually getting a blowout? Did this happen to any of you before? I went through the sidewall writing in about 250 miles, should i worry?

It took you 250 miles? You're probably doing fine. I clean sidewalls after a drive around town or 2.

this. cleaning off sidewalls just means you're doing it right.

the sidewalls are much thicker and tougher than you'd think. i've seen someone cut a groove in the sidewall almost 1cm deep from rubbing and she was still able to drive home, halfway across the country.

well the writing went away in about half that distance now that i think about it, i was just curious if i should worry, because i wouldn't want to change tires because of the sidewall not the camber wear lol

As long as you're not on Yokohama S.Drives, you should be good. Those have the weakest sidewalls on the planet; easy for stretch, but bad for maintaining stretch + some rubbing.

Gold Wheels tore through the S.Drive sidewalls in the middle of Nebraska, after mounting them in Chicago, on our non-stop trip to Vegas. No catastrophic failure, just me and the driver going "Hmm, tires sound and act weird. Let's pull over."

Get stiffer springs, do more fender work, some more camber... lots of options available.

If you opt for the cheap route, you could also just add some bump stops, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

                        A drifter once told me:

"There's 2 things you never lift. The throttle, and a car!" He gets podium finishes at national events, so he must be right.

Contrary to what I posted above, lifting the rear seems like the best option until you can get stiffer rear springs. Bump stops are the number 1 cause of death in America. That's a fact; I read it on Wikipedia.

I dont understand why people are so proud about rubbing.

Your fitment is without rubbing Pavel? I always thought it would rub, tight as it is. But in that case... that's doing it absolutely right.

                              No rubbing what so ever!
Either 215's on the 10 in the front (or 225 FK512's) and 255/265 on 11.5.
It did rub at first with 225 FK452's but 512's solve that problem.
I **** when people say, "Man, my car rubs so bad!" and others reply, "Thats because you're doing it right bro!".
