how are you polishing the lips? The heat generated from a pedestal mount will affect the seal if you dont seperate.

I'd run a stanley round the join and carefully tap round the lip with a rubber or dead blow mallet, shouldnt really require heat tbh, have the wheels been split since the factory?

but use a sharp stanley and go round the seal first before you do anything

I highly doubt you'd get enough heat on the lip from any sort of polishing to get the silicone to seperate...

Remember the silicone holds up under extremely hot days and hours upon hours of running hard turns, a bit of polishing is not going to do anything.

I've redone my set on my braids and never have gotten the lip anywhere near warm...

Thanks guys, I think I will just be leaving them together though. And im not sure how I am going to go about doing this yet. I have had a shop quote me $150 per wheel to have the lips polished, centers painted, and reassembled. Sound like a good deal? Im still debating on finishing up the polishing my self though as they are already sanded up quite well.

How would you polish around the bolts?

The bolts are out, but there is a lot of silicone/sealer still holding them together.

Oh...haha, that makes more sense. It was a BITCH getting Sean's RSs to split, so I don't blame you for not wanting to do it.

i just split my futuras earlier this week. i cut the silicon with a box cutter then tapped them witha hammer and used a small screw driver to get a lil room so i could use my fingures and pull them apart. im doing a full polish on mine. lets see some pics
