  • CAD Wheel Resources and Discussion.

    G'day all.
I am an engineering student and summer break starts very soon, and i decided i want a new project to do. I am a competent cad jockey and im interested in designing some wheels.

Ill post progress and host files for those that want them and feel free to contribute your own. if you have made something such as a barrel etc post it, my aim is to have a large library that people can pick, choose and modify in order to aide in custom wheels.

It would also be interesting to see what software people are using, suppliers of billet, dimensioning hits and tips.

Any one have a generic wheel assembly to get me started, unfortunately i do not have a split wheel to get dimensions from. i want to design a wheel center to fit a 16X8.5 and a 16X9 bbs rs for my e24.

Are you an engineer or a drafting tech who likes wheels?

btw,GIR what programs r u using?? i might get lucky enough getting some tips and tricks from u..

For our final project in the "capstone" course at my school we had to design a wheel. Then we had to draw it in CAD, transfer to CAM and select tools & tool paths, then cut it in a CNC mill.

              Here's mine, I graduated in '07:

I used to spend a lot of my free time just modeling random stuff.
              Here's a Starion/Conquest wheel face I did:

Good work! I'm an Engineering student and a professional CAD draughtsman using Solidworks 2011 (although unfortunately not within the automotive sector). Thinking about a summer project to design a replica engine for my car, see how that goes...

That's some really great stuff there. I only ever really messed around with faces. Never tried doing an assembly. I think I did 4 or 5 different faces in a day, I was really into that project. Other guys in the class were taking 3 days to make one drawing, haha.

We can work on this tomorrow after presentations if you like? I'll send a few emails and try to get some dimensions.

Also, try http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/ if you're still using SolidWorks; There are tonnes of models on there, something may be useful...
