Tires for 8.5x17 and 9.5x17?

So...

I'm putting 8.5x17 ET13 and 9.5x17 ET20 on my Touring.

I'm still not 100% sure about tires.


Rear: Pretty much set on 225/35/17 as that is the smallest I can legally run and get TÜV approved.

Fronts: Debating between either 205/40/17 or 215/35/17. 205s would give more stretch but the 215s make for a lower side profile.


Now, options for tires...

For 215/35 front and 225/35 rear, pretty muc my only option is either Falken FK452 or Yokohama s.drive. The Yokohamas are way more than I'm looking to spend (~655 in comparison to the ~440€ of the Falkens), so I'm pretty much set on the Falkens.

However, if I go with 205s up front my choice is between either Falken FK452, Hankook Ventus V12 Evo or the Marangoni Zeta Linea. In terms of price they're more or less the same, with the Hankook being a bit more expensive.

Which of these 3 will give me the best stretch and perform the best*?


*I'm not looking for track ready performance tires or something, but I also don't want something that will kill me at the slightest drop of rain, heh.

Hankooks run kinda big, so do S.drives, you're gonna get more stretch out of the 452's. I hear really good things about all 3 tires you listed. My 452's are excellent in the rain, and they have decent grip in the dry, I've never been close to the limit but they feel plenty grippy for a daily driver. I remember the first set I got were kinda loud, but i think they solved that because I don't notice my current set being loud at all. As far as the front tire size, I would go with the 205/40's. More stretch and the rolling diamter is pretty close to the 225/35's, a little taller. I dont think the 215/35 is going to give you enough stretch.

falken 205's would be my choice. because even tho the 215's have a lower side wall, it really does not matter, if you are gonna camber it, and tuck some tire. the only thing that does really is making your wheel sit closer to the road (by a small amount)

Falkens in 205-40 and 225-35 it's gonna be.
