  • Bead won't seal?

So, last year I struggled with getting the bead to seal fully on my rs's.

    They're 16x9.5 and the tires is a 215/40 falken 512.

The stretch isn't all that extreme, but I kept coming out to my car and one side would be low on air. Its not leaking out of the valve stem or any bolts. I tested it with water and its just coming out from between the tire and lip. I pulled the bead from the lip and rotated it slighty then mounted them again with some bead sealer and still had a small leak.

anyone have trouble like this before?

I think I might try applying a very very light coat of silicone to the inner wall of the lip to try and give it a better chance at sealing...what do you think?

I won't have easy access to a tire machine like I did last summer, so I'm trying to get it done the first try.

    thanks in advance guys

Did you accidentally tear the bead of the tire when you were mounting it?

nope, they're all off and look mint.

I've heard of people having "trouble" with this, but I feel I'm a little passed trouble...or atleast I was last summer.

just got my centers back from paint an hour ago. I'll probably put them all together tonight instead of sleeping.

tires will go on early next week most likely.

I had this problem then with my type B's. I had a set of Fusion ZRi's that just wouldnt seal. It was quite obvious though, they would bop off the bead like 15 seconds after being inflated. We stuck a pair of Falken 512's on them and they've been working great. No idea why. I have the same sized Fusions on my RF's and they work fine.

yeah man, i don't know what the deal is.

they seal on the inside on the stock bbs barrel, but have trouble sealing on the tunershop lips I have on the outside.

we'll see what happens I guess

That would do nothing at this point except light on fire

Are there any bends? When you rotated the tire did it leak from the same spot or did the leak move with the tire?

Clean and smooth the bead seat on the wheel. Sand it down if you have to and then use a shitload of bead sealer.

I've never had a tire pop off the bead ever, even driving on 0psi on a 205/40/17 on an 8.5 or even a 225 on a 10. Shit I've even had blowouts with crazy stretch before and it always stays seated lol

Ive had a ton of times where my Zris had tiny leaks from the bead but I think it was usually from a damaged bead. This is why I always mount my own tires or at least watch them mount them. Ive always had good luck with Falkens tho

no bends, and I wish I knew if it moved with the tire or not.

I thought I got it to seal a few times, but when I push on the sidewall real hard, you could hear air leaking out very faintly until you stopped pressing.

I'm going to try clean the lips real good, as well as the bead of the tire..

If I have trouble this time, I might be looking at different tires..which is fine because I kind of want more stretch anways.

i've had this problem and know it is frustrating. mine was because the tire bead got damaged during mounting.

uggghhhhh, I don't want to buy new tires, but I'll probably have to....

I don't see what else the problem could be really.

I'm going to try them but if they don't seal first try, then I'm grabbing tires asap.

so...Now I'm looking at tires and can't decide between these 3 choices.

Falken 512 in 205/40 (stretch would be serious, not sure if I want that for daily driving around Massachusetts...but maybe I do.)

                              Falken 512 in 215/40 ( what I previously had...solid stretch..looking for a tiny bit more)

Falken 502 in 205/40 ( I've had these on a set of 16x9's before and the stretch looked like the 215/40 512's on my 9.5's, so I was thinking puting them on a 9.5 would get me to the amount of stretch I'm looking for)

                              opinions on anything?

thanks for all the help so far btw
