  • wheel lip cleaning

ok, so im actually finally getting my wheels sorted, now i bought these "refurbished", but it seems the dumbass left them sit outside face up, and water/dirt/etc has collected around the lip/center edge and its gone funny.

the centres cleaned up fairly easily, just needing a good wash, but now im not sure what to do with the lips.

so im after some advice on what to do. i thought about dropping them off to get polished, but if its an easy fix, i can do it myself.

    some pics

front left seems to be the worst of them

what do we think? i dont want to hit them with anything that will scratch them up, as they dont really have any scratches as is.

im not sure if theyre clearcoated or not.

Just try a bit of Autosol or whatever metal polish you use over there and some elbow grease on a section, chances are they look unlacquered to me and they will polish right up again.

Jorge, on your wheels. (when polished) did you only use autosol?
i tried it myself, but the lip just seems so dull.

Autosol or Belgom Alu. They were 'professionally' -used in the lightest of senses- polished.

I've done old wheel lips in the last with just wet and dry down to 2000 grade and autosol though. I did find it go a little 'cloudy' though by hand sometimes, clean clothes and a final pass with the little dremel wheel did the job though.

so today i got busy with some autosol on one of the lips

came out pretty good, has some scratches and minor pitting in spots

but it seems the other lips all have some heavy pitting

i hit the worst one with some wet+dry to see how itd go, but its pretty deep

              before

              after

so im guessing itll be a lot of sanding to remove the pitting, then up the grades til theyre butt smooth and polish?

will i get them looking like the lip that polished up nice with minor pitting? or will the finish be slightly different?

                result:

if im lucky i might be able to get tyres fitted tomorrow

                    thats a nice color,

sanding and polishing wheels is a real PITA it takes 5-10hr per wheel to do it right
