arch mods ?

gonna be doing some arch work very soon so i thought id ask what works best as alot of you have done it alot more than me, the possitioning of my wheels is not a prob as my company i work for have just started doing spacers, there made to order at any sixe i want, so if im picky (which i am ) i can have them made 21mm 22mm ect, but what i want to do is sit my wheels as close to the arches as possible, im just wondering if i should roll the lips or cut them out all together, i got a 94 bmw e36, ive rolled the arches a bit already but i can roll them some more if cutting isnot a good idea, when this is done all arches are being repainted so paint damageing is not a prob for me,
