  • BBS Style 5s...BBS RC040..

    Evening folks

I just bought what I was told were a set of Style 5s, but after getting them home and having the centre caps off they are stamped as BBS RC040

Are they the same wheel or what?

I've looked through pics of them for months now and could never see the difference

Is there any? And if so what is it?

    Cheers
    Rev

In which case they are more narrow and a higher offset than the normal 5 series Style 5's. Based on the specs on that site any way.

Yeah the RC040s are the same face, only 7.5 wide, with a much higher offset (41?) and smaller lip on the dish than the 009/010s or the 090/091s which are both 8/9 staggered, first having offsets of ET10/19 and other being 20/26.

17x7.5s and I can't see the offset stamp but its a pretty high one

So in theory I could get new barrels to change the offset yeh?

Not really (I don't think) as they are 2 piece wheels rather than 3, and I think the distance from the face to the back of the wheel will be similar / the same on all as the extra width comes from a larger lip, but thinking more about it, you might be able to as on mine the higher offset 26 rears have much less metal than the 20s. Confusing myself a little now so I won't carry on. But,

If you did change the barrels, for the cost of more agressive Style 5s it wouldn't be worth it. You can get a set of 17x8s ET20s all round for £300-400. My friend actually just picked up a set for £230 delivered. If you managed to modify some kind of 3pc barrel for the faces to make a wheel similar to an RS then rebarrelling (if that is even a word) might be worth while.

The cost of Style 5s over here is phenomenal! I've only found two sets for sale in the last 6 months and they were going for €750-€1000

I got these for €300...a frickin' steal!

I'll figure something out, cheers for the help folks

                  Where is over here?

I know prices over here can reach £800+ for a nicely refurbished set, but for a tatty set you can get them for sub £400.

Ireland, I've found a few going in Scotland and the likes but they were about £450, but then I'd either have to pay rape postal charges of splash out on a drive to Belfast and a boat across to the highlands

Not really a steal since they are gonna fit like narrow stock wheels...

Well if you drive aggressively it would be nice to be in proper offsets.
