  • xxr 002 lug bolt question

i have a 1988 bmw 325is and this is bugging the crap a out of me. I bought some xxr 002 (yes i know how everyone feels about these). hey they are cheap and i love cheap, and IMO i love the way they look. anyway, my question is this. Can i use my stock lug bolts to mount these? it says to use tuner style bolts, but i just threw mine on real quick just now and my stock bolts fit in the holes and everything is tight when i tighten them up. i have to use a smaller 17mm socket instead of my lug wrench, however. i just need to know if i have to buy tuner style lug bolts and if i do what size would i need to buy? i have searched and searched for days now with no prevail. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with the length question, but as long as they physically fit, and are cone seat, they will work.

yes you need aftermarket lug nuts on your aftermarket wheels or they will fall off your car driving. this is because the taper seat of stock has less of a degree then aftermarket.

This is aftermarket wheels with stock lugs...

Im not quite sure what you are talking about. I think that that video was a bit extreme... Unless you were actually there, how do you know what happened? All I could hear was someone talking about/counting wheel nuts..

yea, it said in the description that they used the wrong nuts with the wrong threading. the only thing im worried about with my stock lug bolts is the angle of the cone seat. cant mess up stock threads with stock threads. I was also told by a guy who owns an e30 and the same wheels as me to just use the stock lug bolts and that getting hubcentric rings would also be a plus. My rings should be here in two days.

Ok, I didnt see that. Therfore the reason they fell off was because the thread was stripped, and the momentum caused the bolts to slide straight off as the thread wasn't actually grabbing.

The angle on the seating face had nothing to do with the thread itself, It wont mess anything up. If the nut locks hard against the seat, no matter how much of it is contacting, the wheel wont 'fall off'.

Major Jones' post was irrelevant, and the video bears no meaning to this thread/question.
