  • Need stance help with 16s on an e28...

What would it take to stance out an e28 with 16s?

For suspension, I'm planning to get Billy Sports + Spax and probably a skid plate. I don't mind rolling or pulling the fenders, but I want to keep my camber somewhat moderate so I don't have to waste money on tires all the time.

For rims, I already have (4) BBS RS 211s that are 16x8 et11 with a 2" lip. I am firm about keeping the lips the same for the fronts, but should I swap 2.5" lips in the rear? What tire sizes should I run?

    CLIFF Notes for the Lazy:
    • e28 lowered on Spax and Billy Sports
    • BBS RS 211 that are 16x8 et11

Should I swap the 2" lip for a 2.5" in the rear? 3" lip possible?
What size tires should I run front and rear?

    BBS RS 211s

Here's the car when I first bought it...

look at the tyrestretch website + try and fit your wheels. I had a set of rs211, sold them pretty quick.
You really should go with a 3inch lip front and 4inch lip back. that is what i would have done.

have you installed the spax springs yet? what you will find is that they are low, compared to h&r's or other lowering springs. but if you truly want to "stance" your car, they wont be low enough.

this is my buddies car, running your future suspension setup

in person the tires dont tuck in the front. and he is still running fairly big tires for the style 5's.

whereas i on the other hand, chopped the springs in my e28.

i chopped 3 coils front and back. and i tuck the tires in the front. 17x8 et0 steelies with 205/40/r17 tires. i would still take off another half coil in the front if it was up to me. but that would make it un driveable where i life. you can already see i have a scrape protector on the front of my car (a.k.a a rubber strip on my lip). our roads here are horrible.

here is an example of my car when i was running my gotti's. 16x8 et20, with 215/55/r16 tires. when this picture was taken, i was running factory sagged springs in the rear, and i clipped 1.5 coils off the front springs.

that would be similar to what your spax drop would be. to properly stance a 16" wheel on an e28 i'd say you would have to be pretty low, and they would have to be pretty damn wide. wider then my gotti's where.

i know it isn't alot of information, but i hope it helped give you an idea...

I was actually communicating with Moose over PM and you basically reinforced everything he just said too... haha. Basically that Spax + 16s + thick tires will NOT stance.

After throwing on the rims last night, I'm not too happy with it at all. The BBS rs211's 2" slant lips are so pimp, but look less than spectacular when they are wrapped in 205/55s. Since this is StanceWorks, I guess I'm going to have to buy new tires, wider lips, and chop the springs. Question is, how wide do I go? What size tires? How many coils to cut?

          meh...

          Noticeable front gap...

WAY too much gap oh la...

          Needs more low...

I'd say go 16x9 front, 16x10 or 11 in the rear. Keep the barrels, and change the lips.

Also, I suggest cutting the sPax spring, that is if your willing to. It will give you a better spring rate and ride. I'd say one coil out rear and 2 coils front. But cut less and install. Let them settle. And cut more if you need to.

Tires are definitely too tall, but otherwise going on the right track

              Heres a 195 50 tire on a 16x8 wheel

I run these as spares on my e36 when Im doing wheel repair

              AmberLamps..... Get rid of them!

I found a picture of Moose's car on cut stock springs, but he did not recommend it to me cuz he said it ran like a$$. If I cut the Spax like you say, do you think it will ride okay? I'm not asking Lemans here, just don't want my car bouncing on the freeway like an idiot.

Thanks cabezzz... I wasn't aware of a 195/50/16. If I wrap my fronts with 195/50 on an 8" rim, what tire do you think I should put in the rear if they are 9" wide? I might be able to get some rs075s (16x9 et8) for the rears if I'm lucky and it be nice to have some matching stretch front and rear. I was thinking a 215/40 might look pretty peeeeemp.

if you are gonna stance 16, go like this.

you will need poke, to make it work.
The best would be to take the tire of, maybe also the lip and coil.
then compress the the wheel so close to the fender as possable then measure how big lips that you.

                    ^^^^
that is way too much rear camber for an e28. sorry.

and i always suggest that if you HAVE to clip a coil or two off, try to do it to aftermarket coils. like i said i cut 2.5 and 3 coils off of my factory 535iS springs. and it doen't drive like ass.

not saying it drives well. it drives worse than stock. and much worse than a proper ground control coilover setup. but for free, its not that bad.

i actually want to swap in new rear coils with only 2 coils cut. as low as i am, i actually have almost zero rear travel. which is bad when you add a big heavy sub box and spare tire in the trunk..

                      I would do a 205 50 in a 9 inch wheel

Anyone know what my final offset will be if I swapped out my 2" lips for 3.5" lips?

                        (1.5" x 25.4mm) / 2 = 19mm more offset

So if the rs211s were originall 16x8 et11, will I be 16x9.5 et -8??? Will this work in the rear?

I went with bistein sport's and H&R race springs on 16x8's, and I now wish I just spent the money on coils.
