  • What I have been up to lately, Mirror polishing, paint restorating, good stuff inside

    I'll have some new pics in a few days, mirror polishing a set of SI wheels, also possibly a set of BBS RX II's.

    In an attempt to restore the wheels pictured below (which will be spending a lot of time on my army green car),
    I started sanding/polishing, and was really pleased with the results, so from there...

    Basically this is something that I find relaxing, and actually enjoy doing in my spare time. I have done a few sets, as well as a few random things such as lettering on a mazda front vc, tial wastegate, compressor housing, etc. Well, now it seems like I basically have a part time job doing these. The BBS RX II's are a customer's wheels, and as long as he doesn't mind, I'll be posting start-finish pictures. The SI wheels are a friends, whom I am basically "bartering" work with...lets just say, when it comes time for a cage to be welded up, and wastegate dump/downpipe to be fabricated, he will remember my name. haha

    This also comes at a perfect time, since I am in between jobs, and really trying to find a career that suits me, while my resume is floating around out there in the job market, why not make a little dough to throw around, doing something that I enjoy. If I had it my way, every modded car within a 50 mile radius of me would have mirror polished wheels or lips, and a professional detail by me. haha

    Oh, and for reference, I have about 16hrs total, in the lips of my wheels (they were drift wheels previously...NASTY) And the Ansen slots below, I have around 60-70 hours in, give or take. Seeing as the rears were 10.5" wide, and they were a REALLY rough casting of metal.
    I'll have to upload the finished pictures of these as well...

    Also been detailing cars a little bit. Just really as favors for the gf, gf's family, and my buddy.

    The one that really stands out, is obviously the one that I actually put a lot of work into...which is my friend Scott's Civic SI. It's a car that's been repainted, and honestly just beat up as a daily driver by my friend mike prior to me owning it for a year, then me for a year, my friend brent for a year, and finally ended up in my buddy Scott's hands. Well, needless to say, none of us were extremely "easy" on the aesthetics of the car, and Milano red cars have a tendency to fade/swirl/haze amd turn into milano pink, naturally. So, I hit it...and I hit it hard.

    Washed the car with dish soap.
    Claybarred the car with a meguiars kit.
    Used 3m extra cut compound by hand
    Used 3m fine cut compound, by hand
    Used 3m swirl mark remover, by hand
    Used 3m Glaze, by hand.
    Then finished up with a meguiars wax.

    Don't have any before pictures unfortunately, but this was in the summer, car's probably back where it was before so I'll do a full detail writeup on this thing next time i'm over there, cleaning it up.

    I cannot stress enough, how vital this process is to the longevity of paint life/shine, and how stellar of a difference this makes. Granted, this is a full Sunday worth of work, especially if you're doing interior, under the car, engine bay, etc...but the results are WELL worth it. The paint literally feels like glass when you're done, and if you have done your job correctly, there should not be a swirl mark on the car at all.

    I need a better camera.
    I need a steadier hand.
    I need before pics.
    I need people to come get this shit done haha.

        Props on the polishing. I know it's hard work. I put about 40 hours polishing my MB 6 slots

          Just got done with a few more;

          Panasports just lightly polished up, and repainted.

          And 928 Wheels, Mirror faces, rolled the lips on a Passat wagon to fit these with about 3.5" spacers;
