  • Removing face without breaking the bead

I need to pull the faces out of my CCWs to reverse mount them.

I pulled the valves out and the tires are el flato, is it ok to pull the face out without breaking the beads? Technically there is no more or no less resistance on the center of the wheel, no?

I just don't want transport my wheels to my tire guy so he can use the machine to push on my tires.

Wheels are 3 piece non welded lip to barrel.

is the face bolted from the outside and not sandwiched between the barrels then yes you can

i don't know if you may run into issues with resealing the wheels properly so they don't leak

can the wheels definitely be reverse mounted ? ,
if they can then ideally you would take tyres off split and reseal ,at the very least remove the airvalves and you may get away without them leaking ,
search maverick wheels on facebook .. shiny shiny wide wide

Face is not sandwiched, it is mounted to siliconed and sealed barrel to lip, valve stem is in the step lip.

I asked about seal issues because I **** splitting silicone and worrying about resealing and they assured me that the faces are not soliconed, just bolted in.

And yes, CCW says they can be reverse mounted.

Faces can come off with the tires deflated bc CCWs are all face mounted. I'm surprised you're saying CCW said they can be sandwich mounted bc the area on the faces where the bolt holes are located isn't smooth or flat on any CCW I've seen and would require them to be milled down and smoothed before they could be sandwiched

The OP never mentioned sandwich mounting.

yea that was the other guys that questioned if they were sandwiched. I know they aren't haha.

Alright, sounds good guys, thanks. Time for some lower offsets!

The same applies for reverse face mounting. The face where the bolts go need to be flat...

But the face isn't flat where they would bolt up to?

i just looked at a few pics and it looks like CCWs are flat in this area. might look a little funny, but definitely appears that they can be reverse mounted.

Reverse mounting has nothing to do with where the face goes. It's mounting the tire with the wheel face-down on the machine, rather than face-up.

                          Incorrect context.

Reverse FACE mounting (from left to right is) = face then barrel then lip.

Sandwich mounting = barrel, face, lip

Face mounting = barrel, lip, face.

I have yet to see a face mounted behind the barrel shell. Sounds like you guys are making shit up, unless you can find me an example of this so-called 'reverse mount'.

More importantly though, that's all irrelevant because CCW Classics have the face bolted on top of the outer shell, and OP already knew this.

Personally, I wouldn't remove the bolts from a 3-piece wheel with the tire on, because of the possibility of the two shells shifting a bit, and the seal between them becoming compromised.

PS: A prime example of this from factory are OZ Futuras (some rears) that I personally have had experience with.
