  • Quick Rim/Tire Width question

Anyone know the minimum required tire width for a 10" wide wheel? 22" diameter.

Am I okay to run 255's or maybe even 245's. I'm worried about rubbing being that the OEM front wheel is 8.5 inches.

255's isn't much, 245 is slightly more aggressive, I have seen much more ridiculous stretches before. I'd say 225 is the lowest you could go.

And a normal tire shop can throw on a set and 'stretch' them?

Thanks for the quick response BTW

Some shops will, some shops won't. I would call ahead and ask before going in. Before I go any further, what size sidewall are you thinking of running?

30 I believe is what will work best for me.

Right now the wheels have 285/35/22.. Probably too big for a car which normally runs an 8.5 inch wheel up front.

I suggest you look on tyrestretch.com, cause a 225/30 on a 10" is a lot more aggresive than I you may think, I was thinking you would do a sidewall of 40.

I'm not trying to fit the smallest tire possible for stretching purposes, just want clearance.

What model of car? I'm assuming a large Chrysler?

But keeping the overall diameter in the right ball park may something to factor in.

                    Close. It's a 2005 745Li.

What do you mean by keeping the diameter in check? You thin a 30% sidewall is going to cause problems for me?

Well, based on that, the 285/35-22 was both too wide and too tall for the front, and too tall for even the rear.

Are you running 10" all around? Same specs? I'd recommend looking for a 245/35-22 unless you actually need a bigger stretch. It's a little bit of stretch, but barely noticeable (depending on the tire), it keeps the same overall diameter as stock, and isn't narrower than stock.

Supposedly 265/30 is no issue. But I'm going 255/30 just in case. Not worried about performance, thing's like a boat anyway.

I don't know how much diameter plays a role in stretched tires, but I've ran a 225 on a 10 and never had any problems. Just puttin my 2 cents in

Why don't you just test fit your wheels and see for sure if you need to run narrower tires or not?

Also, regarding suggestions of 225... I'm not really a stickler for load ratings (at all) but the 745 is a big heavy car, and I'm quite certain that it would exceed the load rating of most 225s, something that is already reduced by stretching. Also braking performance would become a valid concern with that much mass and unsprung weight and such little contact patch.
