  • pic request (e28 content)

okay. i have spent my whole sunday trying to find pictures (good ones) of a slammed e28 running 205/40/17's. i know some guys run them on e36's for their style 5's but thats not exactly the same application.

**i am using pics without consent of the cars owners. i hope they dont mind**

this is the closest i got. yes its 205/40/17 but with that ride height, i can't tell in the slighest how it will fill the arches.

and i am pretty sure this car is running 205/40's as well but the pic is small. can't tell

i bought some 17x8 et0 steelies, which im gonna run 12mm spacers on. i have a few choices of tires i can run. i know the others can work, but this is the last big question mark on the page.

my car is as low as this one. actually about an inch lower in front and 2 inches lower out back.

but you see, i dont want to just randomly buy tires. although if i purchase those 205/40's i'd have a very mild stretch, and my car would be dropped just over an inch lower to the ground.

but there is a delicate balance between fender gap, ride height, and tire size. in one of the pictures above (the smalled one, with style 5's) that car is doing it perfectly.

for example, my buddies e21 (thanks brah). of course this is before drop (it is not on jackstands). but its a good example. you can see how small those tires are. even if he was to lay frame on the curb, those tires would never fill the fenders. but luckily those are just bald tires that came on the wheels.

here are some pics of my car as of this week, just to help with ideas. current wheel setup is 16x8 et20's, with 215/55/16

Part of the problem is that you bought 17x8s. E28s can easily handle 8.5s or 9s up front, and 9s to 10s in the rear aren't too big of an issue either. 17x8s are nearly impossible to run stretch on without having a tiny sidewall.

Yokohama makes their S-Drive in a 195-45. Try that. You'll be flush up front, but you'll need some spacer action in the back.

cragar's biggest steelie in this bolt pattern is 17x8. so i will keep it at that for now. but i got them at such a good price im thinking about having the rears widened to 17x10 et0. but i've called 6 wheel shops around here and none do it.. i have a few more on my list to still call though.

either way, i'll run my 12mm spacers in the rear making the offset -12. and i think i will run the 205/40/17 wheels. it will have a 1.8 inch less total wheel height. that seems like it will do fine. if that gives me too much wheel gap, i'll just drop it even more!
