cb radio is a really good one for your list. truckers always know where the cops are, and they are mega fun to talk to.

but bandanas incase of a sand storm.

I'd suggest writing down people's numbers and getting a cheap phone card, never know when you're going to run into an area along the way that won't have any cell reception. Then again, a CB Radio will probably get you out of most trouble. Make sure you bring that Nikon too

Don't know if this has been mentioned already since I just skimmed through the ehread. But bring some cinnamon, if your radiator only springs a minor leak poor the cinnamon into it and it will seal the leak as long as it's not to bad. And bring a bar of soap, If your oilpan only gets a very minor cut so it leaks just a little, you rub the bar of soap into the scratch/hole as hard as you can and it should be able to seal it for a while. These are only temporary fixes, but can help you on your way until you can find a place to properly mend the damage.

Yeah, also it's an old trick to bring some cheap pantyhoes as they make a good emergency replacement for a broken fan-belt. Just be sure to tie it really really tight.

Haha both good suggestions, but I am bringing a spare radiator and a shit ton of JBWeld, so both instances are covered.
