  • Survivin' the salt belt Datsun 280Z 2+2

This will be my first time displaying one of my saved S30's on this site/forum for those into the 70's Japanese classics. I acquired this Z in summer 2013 from a small town in Wisconsin, where it had been neglected in a garage by the previous owners family...their father, the original owner had recently passed away from cancer. Due to his debilitating condition and lack of strength he could no longer service or drive his beloved Z, which was well known in their town and seen on a regular basis cruising around.

After a 3.5 hour drive and 4 hours of inspection, test drive, and negotiation with the seller, I closed a deal and brought her back home to Illinois. For the next 2 years she didn't touch the ground and started with a near complete interior gutting to expose all the floor board rust that had become one with the metal....which is quite common on all Z's.

Fast forward to May 2015 and looking back she has under gone quite a mess of reconditioning. Thankfully the painted body work didn't require any rust repair, mostly due in part to the Ziebart coating service it received way back in the day. It does show some paint imperfections which I believe adds some character to the girl, but after a long day of paint correction and detailing she displayed her true original color and looks fantastic!

Here she is sitting on stock suspension with some 17x9/9.5's respectively. Original plans were to go BC coilovers or custom bags, but I have decided to put her up for adoption and focus on my '71 Z coupe which is now being disassembled for a total rebuild and will find her way on SW in the future.

The roof reminds me of the old Saabs of the era. Absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks! If it doesn't sell by November, it'll probably get a suspension upgrade over winter.

Thanks, that's why I bought her in the first place...something a bit different than all the coupes out there.

It does feel good owning not one, but two old JDM manuf classics, they have so much character compared to today's cars.
