    DSLR pictures in post #15

    Hi Stanceworks

First showroom post because I just lowered my car today, woo!

I had it set lower but then I decided to put it a little higher so that it wouldn't rub. I've never had a lowered car before, so I'm still learning to handle speed bumps and stuff!

Question: I am trying to tighten down the nut that goes on top of the front spring/strut and was wondering what one uses in order to tighten it down more. It needs to have a hex key on the middle part in order to keep it from spinning. Basically there is a very mild clunking noise from time to time because of the part.

I seriously have been lurking up in hurr for a long time and I love so many of your cars, I can't even begin to say how much of an addiction this site is for me

Good start man. Everyone has to lower it, and then work their way down from there. Takes time, and some trial and error but mark my words.. you will be scraping pavement before it's done.

Use one of these in the correct size and an allen/hex and you should be good.

you can either use ^^^^^ that approach or you can wrap a thick cloth around the shock body and grab a hold of it with a filter wrench. It doesnt take that much pressure to hold it in place so you wont hurt the strut at all.

use one of these or the like:

car looks great too. I have a soft spot for e46s

I had the same problem when I replaced the strut/springs on my old Subaru (RIP) and I had clunky after I thought I had tightened the nuts down.

Use a proper pass-through socket wrench. I tried wrapping and gripping the shock as well but that didn't work as well as I would have liked.

I'm sure you can find something like this in your area.

                  the beauty of air tools

if thats not available you can use a regular open ended wrench angled to get down to the nut and then just hold it with the allen. Its a pain in the ass but if you got no options it'll work.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I LOVE how everyone on this forum is so kind to one another. Any criticism is always constructive, it's awesome.

I owe 00bmw323 a LOT for helping me with the installation, I sent him a few PM's and he got right back to me and it was hugely appreciated. You are the man! If you're ever in my neck of the woods (210 & 57 freeways) let me buy you a beer ok?

I really like it. What did you decide to go with to lower it?

Today was my first day in coils. A little bumpier than before but the firmness is nice! I just gotta roll my rear fenders because right now it's a jokkkkkkkeeeeeeeee how little clearance there is. Once that's done... I'll experiment with the ride height a little more.

Yes I am aware that the front needs to go down more, you must understand that today was my first time driving a lowered car ever so I'm trying to get used to it.

I feel like the rear is on point, the springs will settle a bit I'm assuming so I think once that happens it'll be perfect (but if not I can still go plenty lower- I just don't wanna jump the gun and then have it be undrivable once the settling happens).
