If it's an 840, you probably won't run into too much trouble.

Dont buy it if your not a bmw enthusiast.
It looks like a good example of an e31.
They are somewhat reliable if you meticulously take care of it.
The only one to get is the 850 six speed.
Don't waste your money on anything else.

It has the CSi body kit and mirrors, GET IT and don't worry about the transmission, just swap it to a 6-speed later if it isn't already.

If it's an 840 go for it....the 850 requires a lot more maintenance and prices are much higher on parts for the v12. We get a couple of 850's here at the dealer and I am always blown away at how much more anything on That car costs vs the rest. If you can do the work yourself and don't mind having a constand headache and empty wallet do it. It looks sick as hell though! I would get it if I coulld afford one

                  X2

I have seen the 850s run repair bills over 8k. Replacing overly expensive parts in pairs gets expensive really fast, dead batteries improperly jumped turned into two batteries +2 DMEs and a slew of other control modules before the car was roadworthy again.

I would take an 840 over an 850 any day just to keep the mainteneance some what reasonable. If I was a shady shop I might tell you to go 850 for job security.

I had an 850 for a bit... Very memorable car!

Fortunately, I never had to do any maintenance on the car.... but the gas mileage was TERRIBLE

Why do you want it? performance or cruisin? My friend had a 840 and was a POS with damn good looks. You have to buy 2 of everything on this car.. Half its life was spent in the shop (pixels, dme, auto tranny issues, sensors being whack, etc). Ended selling it dirt cheap. Parts are pricey since there's not that many and most parts are discontinued..

Oh yeah.. The only one to buy is the dinan twin turbo if you can find one. >

thx for the advise. i've been looking at a few bmws (mostly newer but no new ones) to get into once i am out of the gti and this just happened to catch my eye while i was rolling down the street........and that pic isn't the actual one i saw - that's just something i found on the web.

maybe i'll pass as i don't want to keep dropping money into a car just to keep driving it. i've had enough of that with the 15 or so beaters that i've owned in my lifetime LOL. one thing here and there isn't too bad, but every other month is too much time and money for me when it's not going towards upgrades & mods.

guess i'll have to stop by when they are open to see what model it is since i just did a once over. maybe this is a little too old for what i should be looking for but if anyone is interested in it, let me know and i can get the info for you.
