I personally look down on people who buy DDM bumpers, replica wheels, Meyle control arms, ebay parts.
Depo is nowhere close to Hella quality, neither do they look the same!

I understand and know the law. It allows me to buy Meyle control arms for 60 dollars when Lemfoerder wants 100 and BMW wants 150 for the same Lemfoerder arm(with BMW Roundel on it and a BMW P/N). Without the law in place we would all be shopping at the dealer only while they set their own price on rebadged parts.

With that said Depo came out YEARS after Bosch/Hella/ZKW were making OEM headlights/replacements for BMW. Depo is a company that has taken a Bosch light and copied it down to the little vents, mounts, tabs, glass etc. It is a replica. A replacement part but a replica. I don't see many looking down on people with Depos because they bought the cheaper, lower quality version that doesn't work nearly as well as the 'real' Bosch light.

I think you are misunderstanding my point. My point is that no one will say a word if you have a DDM M3 bumper. No one will say a word if you have DEPOs. No one will say a word if you eBay Hamann 'style' black out grills. All you have done is go buy the cheapest versions of everything possible. Buy a set of LM Reps and some will shun you. In my opinion it is hard for me to take a stance against replica wheels because I enjoy all the low priced parts. You can say they are 'replacement parts' but you are buying a cheaply made copy of the actual original equipment supplier. I just can't take an anti replica wheel stance when I have no problem buying a DDM MTech bumper.

Read up on the laws that went into effect back in the day about replacement parts for cars. A headlight is a headlight. Yeah, you can make it chrome or black or whatever, but at the end of the day, the components have to be in their respective locations to work with the car and to perform properly.

A wheel is an intellectual design. You don't have to copy other's designs. That's the difference. There's only so many ways to make a headlight for an e36, but the same is not true for a wheel.

Same with bumpers. Replacement parts. Its in effect to keep dealers from gaining a monopoly on everything and charging asinine prices.

Show me a set of replica wheels that are lighter and stronger than what they copy and maybe I'll buy a set, But I appreciate the lightweight and strength of my forged BBSs. I have them now b/c they were and improvement over stock cast weaves and of superior quality.

What I don't understand are the comments saying, "It's just a lowered BMW with wheels." I have never seen an E39 that low, or on those wheels, much less the combo. Minus the rocker/side skirt, its CLEAN. What's there not to like? I can understand those who aren't into a car that low, but to say it's boring and overdone doesn't make sense to me.

If the opportunity ever arises I would really really LOVE to do a photoshoot of both of our cars! I freakin' love your E39. I don't know if it was mentioned somewhere else, but what are your spring rates?

Currently she is on 650 f, 450 r.
I had 450, 850 and ended up with 650for the front.
On the rear I tryed 350, 850 and ended up with 450. I think I will be upgreading to 500 rear.

Well for a start they have to be round ... and second: cars have been around for a little over a century, millions of types of wheels have been made in that time: be real, even if you've never seen another wheel in your life and set down to design one, it would still look similar to something else out there.
