  • 1972 Mercedes 280SEL (W108) on AccuAir iLevel

    Hello All,

I love my W108, but it was a little...plain. Not anymore. Added some white-wall tires, fixed a bunch of leaks, and swapped out the stock suspension for AccuAir iLevel Air Ride. This has level sensors in each corner and is controlled via wifi signal from the system's computer and an iphone app. Therefore, no control boards, switches, etc had to be installed in the car. "Big Bump Height" is an inch above stock. Cruise Height is 1 inch below stock. "Low, Straight and Slow" is 1/2 inch above the bump stops. It's freaking sweet.

We installed it in a fashion that the car was not really altered in any way. You could pull all this out and re-install the stock suspension and be none the wiser.

But I don't plan on selling it ever. Work performed by Advanced BMW Repair in Houston. Alex over there knows his stuff, and is an active member here. https://www.facebook.com/BMWdoctor

On to the pics! I'll get a few more professional shots soon, but we just got it going so I wanted to toss out some teasers.

These are the new e30s in the stance scene.

Clean car though, and I mean really really clean.

Old Mercs do seem to be popping up here quite a bit. I'll say this, though, once you get back to the 70's and older, keeping a car on the road long term becomes much more difficult of a task. A huge portion of the parts on the W108 are obsolete and NLA...which isn't the case for the E30. So I'm really glad to see these old classy beasts coming out of the woodwork lately, hopefully that will bring about some more DIYs and modern solutions to problems with old obsolete gear (especially that old EFI).

I'm loving this car. I like that you kept Mercedes wheels instead of putting something more modern on it and decided to rock white walls. This car looks very classy!!

Thanks! My goal was to keep it looking as close to factory as possible - so when in driving down the road at "middle" ride height, you can't tell any thing's been done to it. And I think very few newer wheels look good on this body style.

Thanks for the positive feedback! I have put about 150 miles on it over the last week just to test everything out - and it works like a charm! A/C is ice cold, engine stays within a good temp range, and of course the air ride is awesome.

Mega props to Alex at Advanced BMW Repair Houston for the hard work!
