how do you gauge low?

a lot of car's seem low, but really, they just have a front lip that sits 2 inches lower than the rest of the under-car.

mk1's VW's seem to prize scraping the oil pan, but really, the oil pan sits unreasonably low to begin with.

and i've seen some low 240sx's, but really, it's the body kit that makes the car seem lower than it is.

from here on out, lets measure low in terms of frame rails or subframes. since that's the hardest part to get as low as possible.

I judge lowness by rim/tyre to arch gap... some cars naturally sit lower to the ground than others.

That depends. on an E36 for example that's actually the easiest part to get low because they hang out very low under the car.

You cant express or judge low. You just know low when you see it. Some try to fake their way through, and some take it to extremes, but when you see it, you know its there.

measuring low by how low your lip hangs, by your oil pan height, by your subframe or any other way is stupid. you cant make a reasonable gauge from any of those.

That depends. on an E36 for example that's actually the easiest part to get low because they hang out very low under the car.

how can you get any lower than the subframe/frame rails then? you'd have to do a body drop at that point.

as others said, low is something you know when you see. every car is a little different and can only be lowered to a certain point. if you are crazy about low and stance as most of us on this site, you know when someone is cheating or not.you cant judge low.

he is right, the case for vws is always going to be the pan for each generation, i was on air with my jetta and the only guys at first that were low were the ones that could lay subframe on the ground, now its completly different

I agree with the you know it when you see it, my jetta I measure fender to ground height to signify how low I am, Oil pan means shit to me because in a 24v they sit an inch off the ground when the car it self is barely lowered at all. My e36 I measured by front sway bar/frame rails and how much of the tire I could tuck...but really you know when just looking at a car..fuck that things low.

wheel to fender gap everything else just doesn't matter imo. I dont care if your frame is 1" off the ground or your kit is 1" off the ground as long as the wheel to fender gap is on point you are good in my book!!!

Exactly. Oil/Tranny pans. If you're popping them then you're low. Otherwise man up.

Wheel/fender gap (fender low) is a whole different thing then actually being low. Getting fender low is a lot easier. IMO of course.

I judge low by counting the amount of times I hit the oil pan or the control arm mounts on the way to the store and back. Twenty or more times and it's low...

somedays I'm lower than others.
