  • because sometimes being low is annoying

In addition to my wife's Jetta and my vert, we've had this 2002 Ram 1500 2wd for the past 6 years. Within weeks of owning it, it was lifted with a 7" CST spindle/spring/block lift kit. I've always raced dirt bikes, so I thought it would be cool to get some black Moto Metal wheels with 35"s. Wrong. Every redneck and bro went on to buy those wheels and lately they've really dated the truck.

I've always had ideas of going with 37s and custom wheels, but a recent ball joint failure took out a tire and forced my hand. I found what seems to be one of the only wheel companies building 18" and 20" steel wheels for rockcrawlers.

These are 18x11 et-12 with 37"x14". It takes up every bit of space I have and I'm even having to do some fender and bumper trimming to do anything other than mall crawling. I couldn't be happier though! The 4.56 gears seem to handle the extra weight and size fine. The biggest thing is that I'll never see another truck with this setup.

Looks mean. For a bro truck, I like it.

Is it as fun as being low is on the streets though?

Sometimes its nice not to worry about hitting things. Also able to carry 6-7 people around.

Pretty much. It floods a lot here and my wife is known to hit the deep water wide open. We've had it up to the bumpers in water a few times during storms.

I don't know how some of my friends without trucks do it. My last truck was a Taco and it was great. I always think it looks best to run the biggest tire possible.

No worries. Between the monster truck and the BMW, it doesn't bug me too much.

those fenders are awesome. I'd like to do those and the glass bedsides eventually.

So... does this ever see mud pits / offroad?
                      If not, what's the point?
It's like rock-crawling... in the streets...

You sir, have picked the worst truck you could have ever paid money for.
                        2wd, gas job, DODGE.
                        Neat suspension/wheel/tire combo though.

lol mud pits. it gets driven off road somewhat regularly with dirt bikes, camping, the beach or at friends' land, but mostly because it looks pretty.

I've always heard that from people, but this thing has been bulletproof for 6 yrs/70k. I don't like Fords and GM crew cabs were too expensive at the time. We love this one and its been perfect for us. We'll probably buy another Dodge Hemi for next truck. The new Tundras are pretty appealing though.
