  • Castro Motorsport: Sebo's S50 Turbo E30 Sedan

    Hi Guys,

Meant to post this the other week, but I simply haven't had the time. So, about a year ago our friend Sebo came by the shop with a fairly stock 325e 4 door that he wanted some work done to. Sebo is good friends with our buddy Abby (-ak-), which has a clean M20 turbo E30 we built a while ago, and has been an E30 head for the past few years. Needless to say Sebo has received a bit of guidance in his E30 journey from Abby. Luckily Sebo's been keeping track of his build from the beginning, so I can give a full story.

(Pic of Abby's car for reference)

Here's the E30 the day that Sebo bought it, by every definition it was STOCK!

First thing Sebo did was buy some US spec ellipsoid head lights to get rid of the original sealed beams, along with some HIDs.

Next came the plastic bumper swap for the front

Then fresh euro bumper trim and an iS lip

Of course the E30 needed some new shoes, so Sebo grabbed some 16x8 Miro wheels

And he added some Megan coil-overs to stance it properly

Luckily he had some friends to help install the coils

    And the finished product

Some euro grilles for the front end

And this is the point in the story where Sebo came to our shop. Initially he had us *** exhaust, and then it snowballed from there. He added some iS side skirts, an E28 Mtech trunk spoiler, and a plastic rear bumper by this time as well.

Seeing how much fun and how quick Abby's turbo E30 was, Sebo initially planned to do a crazy M20 turbo set-up. We planned to use a 666fab twin-scroll top mount manifold, with a gt3076, with a big divided hot-side and dual 44mm wastegates, megasquirt v3, etc. While it would've been an epic M20 set-up, the cost wouldn't have been worth it when a 24v engine could've been built even better for a similar price! Back to the drawing table!

In the mean time he had the car painted BMW Steel Grey

    And the finished product

Then we made some all red tail lights for Sebo and added a euro plate filler

Next we sourced Sebo some nice staggered 16x8 & 16x9 BBS RS off a Porsche, which he had filled and drilled to 4x100 and refinished. They look soooooooo good on his car!

Shortly after getting the wheels, we found a good donor car for Sebo's S50...

Now that we had the motor, we spec'd out the full swap and turbo build for Sebo. Here's what we came up with:

    US Spec S50B30
    0.140 MLS Head Gasket
    Arp2000 Head Studs
    Tack welded oil pump nut
    Matching ZF310 Trans
    F1 Racing Stage 4 Clutch
    F1 Chromoly Lightweight Flywheel
    Castro Motorsport Built 2.79 LSD
Turbonetics GTK550 Ball Bearing Turbo (.82 exhaust side)
    Turbo Blanket
Miller Performance 60# Injector, Blo-Thru MAF & WAR Chip Tuning Package
    Tial MV-R 44mm Wastegate
    Greddy Blow Off Valve
Blunttech/Rapid Spool Industries Top Mount 24v E30 Turbo Manifold
Custom 3" intercooler and cold-side piping by Castro Motorsport
3" mandrel bent exhaust (Straight back to a Borla Pro-XS)

    by Castro Motorsport
Custom aluminum intake manifold + large throttle body by castro Motorsport
    God Speed Intercooler
    CX Racing Aluminum Radiator
    Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
2 Custom tunes done by Dan Miller in house: conservative 10 psi (370whp/360wtq) & 15 psi (441whp/427wtq)
AEM Uego AFR and Boost gauges

Getting the S50 prepped with the new MLS and Arps

Turbo manifold, turbo, wastegate, and aluminum intake manifold head flange test fit

Sebo's E30 waiting patiently for it's new heart!

Motor in, intercooler mounted, and intercooler piping almost complete

    Close ups of the turbo,
intercooler, BOV, downpipe and wastegate before install

    Installed

    Wastegate tube and exhaust finished

    Installed

Intake piping done, and the car is ready to start!

    Finished product!!!

    And the owner himself

Great build but I gotta say it... That is easily one of the most dangerous cars I've seen. The lack of brakes and safety equipment with that much power is a little concerning. The passenger would be absolutely fucked sitting in that position in a crash.

I love what you guys do. I just don't want anyone to get hurt. Keep it shiny side up

Great job on the swap and it looks incredible. However it needs a BBK asap

Totally understood Geoff, the car does at least need better brakes. The airstrip day was a one time deal and went without a hitch minus the fuel issue. Thanks for the kind words.

Good catch, but it's simply an s50, with an OBD2 valve cover and engine cover.

Rear valence is from DTMFiberwerkz. Not our choice, but it does look goog, minus the massive exhaust opening......
