And everytime I see new picstures, my wallet screams in fear because you're making me want to do dirty things to my 34.
My wallet is not happy with me either, lol! I have always been a fan of your wagon, so I look forward to see what you do with the E34. Thanks buddy.

Dat Fitment.
Got the caps apart.
You can see the difference with the threads, this proved to be a bit of a challenge. The larger caps were only supposed to be a temporary set until I could get the nice plated replacements.
Got them together, side by side comparison.
You really have to push in on the shorter caps to get them to engage, luckily I had a few tools to use. Ultimately the BMW tool actually worked better since you could push directly in the center with a 17mm socket.
Since the fronts were a little trickier to engage and it made me a little nervous, I decided to pop all of the caps back off and use some Loctite thread tape. This actually helped a lot with getting the threads to engage and screw on tight.
Everything is tight and they really look so much better imo. Paul did a wonderful job with the plating.

Those Rs's look awesome, though I was a little biased to the acs's because they were so unique.
As someone who has owned Rs's, and rebuilt them, that whole pressing hard deal to get the cap to attach would make me nervous. IF I remember correctly, the plastic lower half of the stock caps that have the threads on them, can be separated from the actual hex nut itself. What I don't know is if those 1/4 caps can come apart too. If they can, swap those lower pieces so you're not fighting to thread them on the wheel! You don't want to loose one of those caps.

They are solid aluminum all the way through on the aftermarket caps. And the threads are too short for most of the 16"/17"applications which is why they didn't thread on that many complete turns.
I'm working on a solution as an alternative to these caps with an additional threaded depth of about 3-8".sigpic

Thanks for the info! I had never messed with aftermarket caps, so I just wasn't sure. That would make me really nervous running those 1/4 caps then, as I have had 1 full size rs cap work its way off after almost a full season of dd'ing my car.

I check every few days, then every few weeks, then months....etc. Until I am confident that they will stay. No big deal really since i would be checking them even if they went on easy.
Heres another quick I-Phone picture. I should have a proper photo shoot soon.
