Each state has it's own law, but airbags can be engineered and be 100% legal. Generally, you need to have a vague reason for having airbag suspension, for example "work purposes" or "My grandma can no longer get into a car this high as she is disabled" and are passed on case-by-case situations. telling them "I want a hectic looking ride" won't be passed. If fitting them affects the chassis at all, such as a notch, it's 100% illegal.
I've also read in places that the system should have a levelling system in place so as to not disrupt the manufacturers specification/not run with the front or rear sagging.
Edit: Read a bit more and they MUST have a self levelling system fitted.. apparently.
In Victoria, they aren't a roadworthy item and it's an extremely grey area. Looking at the actual modification laws from VicRoads, they don't refer to hydraulic or air suspension, just the relationship between front and rear (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...340/0/VSI8.pdf) I think the idea is to have them inflated so you are just under stock height when driving to not get caught to not have to try and explain it all.
As I said, it's a very grey area here in Victoria.Last edited by jcflowers; 02-23-2012, 04:29 AM.

Once I get seriously looking into it, I'll go to a few places/ring around and ask about bagging with legalities. I kinda expect it will run $3,000+ but the car I'm looking at getting is off one of my dad's mates, so I would get it at trade-in cost. Spending $3000 on it would just raise it to normal private price so it would work out

The eyelids always get mixed reviews. Tried it without the eyelids and the front end IMO doesnt look so good. Way i see it, aggressive fitment, aggressive lip kit (for a camry at least) and the eyelids give it that more of an aggressive appearance on the road. But i do see where everyone who doesnt like it is coming from. Appreciate your honesty fellas!
That being said, you've made a Camry look amazing. And that body style nonetheless. Very cool.

Great looking Camry. I've always been a fan of that body style (weird, right?). You Aussie guys have to put up with so much static from law enforcement. It's so stupid.StatusRacing.com

That being said, yep you can get it engineered. Cant remember what oxer said but he said if you get it engineered you need to get it renewed every x amount of months now. and that costs money. With all that being said, i still would love airbags, But since this is my daily for practicality wise id prefer coils (weird right? but thats just me)

It is a very grey area here in victoria. The way i see it is 1) i cant afford to get bags. 2) I like to ride slammed so if i got airbags id ride slammed all the time anyway. And if im going to get busted by the cops, its so much harder to take out air suspension than it is to take out coilovers IMO.

thanks brother. yeah it sucks but low is a lifestyle right?
You definitely raise some good points there. And I wasn't aware of a renewal thing.. that's shiiiiiiithouse!
I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, and hope all the Commodore wankers keep the cops off my back haha.
