  • 74' 240d - Another Low Old Merc

Excuse the cell phone pics. My battery door on my DSLR is broke, causing it difficult to shoot.

Just bought her. Literally owned by a grandmother most of it's life. It's got every receipt on it since it was bought new, including the shipping plate from when it came from Germany and every oil change and fix since then. It's nearly insane how well she's taken care of this car.

So of course, John@APF and I set to lowering it at the shop. He bought my W123 and had already lowered it, so mine was next on the list.

The oil pan is about an inch, maybe an inch and a quarter off the ground. Now we just have to figure out how to gain back my steering, as going to my schools parking decks usually include a 2 point turn to go up a level now. Also might lower the back a tad to get rid of the rake, I can't decide if I like it. Then, it's getting painted. Still deciding on color ideas.

    Thanks for looking.

    -Skipper.

I really want to like the color, but I just can't. The paint needs to be saved, which I'll work on more this week. We'll see if it comes out well enough for me to consider it OK.

I'm not sure on wheels. I found some BBS Mahles but they ended up not being the right bolt pattern like he advertised. If I can't find anything, I'll have the wheels widened and recondition the steelies.

keep that color! if anything just clear coat it with modern day clear coat so it won't come off.

            i would ditch the tints.

            any interior shots?

Euro Headlights & Euro Bumpers are on my wishlist. I'm going to see if my buddy in Cambridge can find me some to ship over.

Tint is being redone this weekend.

Interior was redone in black with a houndstouth-esque pattern in the center. All of the door panels were tightened up and redyed in black (replacing the green). Love the interior job, but I **** how they ditched the horned headrests.

Yes! I really wish I had the money and space to mess around with an older car like this.

The color my car was from the factory. Been debating about painting it back to original. Yours looks fantastic, wish mine was this clean. And about your oil-pan, I took three out in my W115 last summer, so I strongly suggest a skidplate. I dont know what kind of oil-pans on the 240's, but I have to cut a 1/4-1/2" out of mine to get a skidplate on. As for steering, I get lock to lock aired out with no suspension modifications besides the bags replacing the springs.

                      Cant wait to see more!

Man, I just don't see how. The w123 has a different steering setup that helps a lot for that chassis when it's low. This car is completely cut in half of what it's previous steering was. I'm working on raising up the front now just to get through my parking decks.

We found some sweet shock through one of our dealers for 16 bucks a shock. I figured what the heck, might as well try em. So we're ordering those today. Should help a lot since my shocks are wore out.

Also, already busted an oil pan. We're currently building a new setup for a gnarly defense system. Watch out rocks, I'm coming for you.

I love that color, and you don't need to steer when your driving a boss old merc that is flush to rim on 14's.
