  • Looking To Stretch OUT!

Alright I have been searching and searching, mainly learning and i have come to the conclusion that i will go for the stretch look for a bit on the wheels i have.
so when summer comes around i have an excuse to get new wheels when these get trashed!

So My thoughts are that I want to stretch and go MOAR LOW!

Im looking to go with this setup.

    Front: Nankang NS-2
    215/35/18 x 8.5

    Rear: Nankang NS-2
    215/35/18 x 9.5

A few questions I have are:

Will Firestone ETC.. Mount these? or will I have to take it elsewere.
Will this setup be < %3 to accomodate the rolling diameter for quattro?

This would be my overall goal with this. TO ME, this stance is perfect. I will #Scrape #Rub #DESTROY my lips, but thats is ok.[:d]

    This is 215/35/18 x 9.5 all around w/nankang NS-II.

    Throw some advice at me![wrench]

First off, yes this should be in the "Wheels and Brakes" section.

Second, I will try to answer the questions I think he's posing...

          A. Most shops will be okay mounting the 215/35 on a 8.5" wheel, but many will refuse to mount the 215 on a 9.5" wheel. Your best bet is to look in the regional forums on Stanceworks or VWvortex, find a local guy with a similar fitment and ask where he got them mounted - or go to a local car show and ask someone. My guess is the forum route will be faster.

          B. I may blow your mind here... if the tire sizes are the same front and rear, the overall inflated tire diameter will not be different at all if you have an 8.5" in front and 9.5" in back. I do this all the time and even at one point had 225/40s on an 8" wheel in front and an 11" in back. Think about it, the tire is a round belt of steel covered in rubber and regardless of how you change the sidewall orientation, that steel belt will not lose circumference. I didn't believe this at first with my 8 and 11" Porsche Twist 2 setup and my AWD system is as sensitive as yours, but the tire height on the front and rear wheels were identical to the millimeter. You will not damage the AWD system if you keep the same tire size front and rear.

Edit: The technorati may be saying now, "but rolling mass will be greater on the rear axle because those wider wheels will weigh more." This is true, but I haven't had issues after 40k miles on a similar awd setup running staggered wheels most of the time. I don't think it's an issue and I think the overall diameter consistency is more important as to not "wind-up" the AWD system.

          Good luck and godspeed.
