I went to California Customs in Fort Smith, AR about a week before leaving for SEMA to film the final build up of Kris Carroll's Chevy S10 project called the Smoothster. This is a video that goes behind the scenes of your classic SEMA crunch build where time is limited and not everything goes so "smoothly." Watch Kris and his friends work tirelessly to try and get his truck ready for the show.

Having a mini truck background I appreciate the amount of work that went into that build, but it's not doing it for me.

I don't really like a lot of stuff that gets done in the mini trucking culture, but something that is being missed here, SEMA cars are always overdone trying to showcase the skill and craftmanship of these companies, because they are there for one reason, to get more business. I don't know about you guys but the quality of the work I see here, is pretty damn impressive.- Kielan (Key-lin)

Yes, the quality of work is amazing and I understand and appreciate the amount of time and hard work that went into the build. But as far as the mini trucking scene goes, this is just another typical show quality S10. It really isn't anything crazy.Originally posted by Kielan View PostI don't really like a lot of stuff that gets done in the mini trucking culture, but something that is being missed here, SEMA cars are always overdone trying to showcase the skill and craftmanship of these companies, because they are there for one reason, to get more business. I have to agree with you there. Also coming from a minitruck background. I like it sans the front end. Quality looks top notch!Originally posted by Matth3w View PostYes, the quality of work is amazing and I understand and appreciate the amount of time and hard work that went into the build. I actually dont mind it all that much but it just screams typical mini s10 to me. The craftsmanship makes it worth looking at for sure though. To all the minitruck guys, how come everyone mods them exactly the same? I always see a lot of cool suspension and details on these trucks, but the styling is always the same typical boring set up. If this truck had IRS, radiused fenders, flushed and cambered jdm 18x11s with some vip or even boso styling, it would get a shit ton more publicity

Exactly! It seems like no one in the scene wants to do anything different with the overall styling of their trucks. It's always the same shit...shave as much as possible, body drop, tuck huge wheels that are sunk in the wells, and go crazy on the suspension setup, ugly paint schemes, and interior.Originally posted by Ollie View PostI actually dont mind it all that much but it just screams typical mini s10 to me. Yeah, but anything outside of the "norm" would get ragged on the Interwebz! All vehicles are all cookie cutters. There isn't really anything that hasn't been done. I mean honestly you can't really pioneer and do something nuts because most wouldn't like it. And things that aren't to "the in-crowds" liking get ragged on, hard.Originally posted by Ollie View PostI actually dont mind it all that much but it just screams typical mini s10 to me.
