I'll be working a lot this summer, and will hopefully have enough money for a new project. I have a 96 GTI VR6 now, lowered on some ground controls and adjustable koni's. Its a fine DD that doesn't need anymore done to it. So I want a cool project.
Wanna help me choose what car to buy? I'll have a maximum purchase budget of $10k for the right car, although I'd rather spend half as much on a car that needs some work.
Here's my shopping list:
D2 Audi S8 or A8 (were these available in the US with a manual?)
early 80's Audi 4000CS
BMW 2002
BMW e3 Bavaria
BMW e12
BMW e21
maybe an e36 or a e28 (not too unique on this forum, but still nice)
Mercedes Benz sedan from the 60's or 70's
Mercedes 190e from the 80's
1st gen Toyota Celica
Datsun 510
any 70's Japanese muscle/pony car (no Z's though)
Volvo 240 wagon or sedan
Any british car that looks like a Dolly Sprint
A Dolly Sprint
and the only fwd car on the list: a clean late 80's CRX or Civic SI
Here's my criteria if you want to make a suggestion:
RWD or AWD
German, Swedish or Japanese
Pre-2000
No rust on the body
unique to this forum
Right now I'm loving the e3 Bavaria and the 4000cs, but I'm having a tough time finding one in the NE at all.
Some plans for any of these cars include a dark blue or matte purple paint job or wrap, coils, some original wheels, modern motor swap from the same manufacturer with mild bolt on like straight pipes, custom seat covers, old school Alpine radio with modern speakers and subs, roof rack, JDM fender mirrors, some other stuff specific to certain cars.
your thoughts?
