I think I've loved stanced cars ever since I first saw wheels sitting flush in the fenders in a few german modiying magazines back in the 90ies when I was just a kid.
It was a picture of a pair of Euro E30s sitting next to each other. One blue, one dark red. I can't find the picture, but that's the one that comes to mind.
Here in Norway the stretch and poke thing has been around on all kind of german cars since the '80s. It's always been know here as german-stance. Since in germany you can (/could? help me out here dr.ak) have the wheels sticking out as much as you like as long as the tire tread was insode the outer point of the arch. This is illegal in Norway, which makes it all the more cool. And it usually meant the car would be lowered more front than rear. But what really got me into it was when I bought the M3 E30 SE. It came with 9x16 et08 RS075s that did stick out quite a bit. And with 215/225-45 16 tires it looked sweet, if a little small.
Though I've never taken it to an extreme I plan on doing so with the e28. Working on building my own 9/9.5 and 10-11 x16" RS wheels. And no more than 225 tires at the back
