Thanks guys. Plan on a new thread soon, picking up some e codes and lowering it another inch or so all the way around.

Lol if you dropped the motor to to the t-belt on an AEG you shouldn't be working on VWs.

And if you think AEGs are bad...try doing a t-belt on a 1.8T...esp. in a Beetle.

the passenger side engine mount needs to be taken out to get the timing belt off the car. there is literally no way around it. the timing belt will not come off if you dont.

              guess you got lucky.

vw's in general are NOT known for reliability

                nice mk4.

generally speaking, which is more reliable: BMWs or watercooled VWs?

As far as I know BMW is more reliable. People always complain about VW and not so much about BMW

thats not dropping the motor, its really not THAT bad provided you have the tools. at least you dont have to take apart your whole front end like i do

plus, 2.0's are bullet proof, so long as you change the timing belt every 60-70k miles, and they're dirt cheap to fix. The only thing that ever went bad on my old 2.0 jetta were the o2 sensors. And my current 1.8t has been completely trouble free for 109K miles.
