my gf and i talk about taking a road trip all the time. i used to drive otr. so i've made it cross country a bunch of times, but never a personal trip in my own car. and yes, i-80 blows! and seeing this makes us want to do it even more. but we really are broke and going to school. how much did u spend, if u dont mind me asking? gas, lodging, just the basics obviously. i'd like to get an idea. oh, and thanks for the senic pics. very inspiring. looks like u and sis had a killer time.
this is not a personal attack.

I know you were just in SD, but are you still planning on coming down to LA? We gotta meet up while you are out here dude.
I'm actually leaving alot earlier then I thought. My job called me back east two weeks sooner then I had planned. Next time or make it out east bro you always have a place to stay.

I don't mind at all. I was completely broke before I left but arranged a temporary job here for the six weeks I planned on staying so I justified the cost by telling myself i'd pay it back. That was bull shit and I knew it but I still don't regret it.

With a very expensive visit to Chicago the entire thing cost me around $1500 with gas, lodging in motels twice (stayed with friends in the chi), food, and national park fees. It could have very easily been done for under $1200 on a somewhat strict budget and probably even under a $1000 on a stricter one.

You have to remember my car has a 22 or 23 gallon tank and burns 23mpg on a good day. Gas alone for me was around $700 to $800.

I say you do it. I say everyone do it. It was a blast even with all the hiccups.

Great write up, FMU is definitely one of the cooler groups of people I have had the pleasure of meeting. Definitely need to do a cross country trip at some point.

dude, did you drive over that one bridge to get to Niagra Falls? I'm amazed you did this trip with that low of a car. My car is not as low as your car and it sucked for me, I could only imagine how bad at times it must've been for you.

Yea I made it over. That bridge is nothing compared to Boston roads.

Everyone needs to drive cross country.
