Staying Static

I've never been too keen on air setups. Maybe.....MAYBE....if I ever did a VIP style build I would consider air. But for a sport compact such as your GTI it's static all the way for me. I just have a deeper appreciation for someone who drives their car static slammed. I guess because it's more "ballsy" and it blows peoples minds when you tell them "yeah, I drive it at this ride height". Of course for me....I have a Miata....so coilovers were really my only choice anyways, lol.

I'm on bags... ride low as fuck daily.
Frame rails are no lie 1'' from the ground when I drive. I lay frame when I park

Thanks for the thread O!
I like the way the car drives on coils! I never would of thought of bags, EVER! Until I started seeing more bags on the VW scean.
I'm just considering it because I can't fit anyone in the car anymore (which is not cool cause my kids love to go for rides in the dub). second I'm not going to shell out money every month or so just to fix some quarter. Hopefully when I get them done over again it will be better. I will stay with the FK's for now but will start buying the parts for the air ride little by little for the future.
I'm the type that if I did have the bags I will still ride with it dumped, keep in mind that when summer is over the factory wheels go back on (17's) and the car is lowered more.
We'll see how things go, I will keep it on coils as long as I can, as long as I don't crack the oil pan again and don't put a hole in my exhaust (I have the EuroJet 3" which for awhile was hitting all the time but it has shaved done quite abit, lmao!!)
Will post up more pictures after dropping the front after removing the helper springs!!!
Thanks!

I can appreciate bags and I don't **** them to **** them.. but seeing Gti's on bags left and right is a sad sight for me. Low on coilovers gives it a nice look and also presents itself as sporty.
One of the reasons I sold my Rabbit. The new VW scene is just confused.

of course -- i concede that you're probably going to ride a bit higher static than not.Originally posted by Moose View PostI know where you are coming from there, and I get what you are saying. Just for example however, on bags, on a good road you can run .5" off the ground, and then pop up to 2" on a rough road as your rates are soft. With a super stiff set of coils, you can run it 1" off the ground all the time, but as you have to drive the rough road at the same height as a smooth one, you are forced to keep it up at 1" rather than the .5". Obviously the amount of scraping and smashing you want to put up with plays a role as well, but I think you can get my point.
anyway, i'm seriously considering something like platinum's cup kit, so i can ride as low as i want and only raise the car when i meet an obstacle. the pricing is going to kick my ass though...

at a certain point, most bag setups become too soft for really, really low cars. a few guys on VIP car forums have been complaining about their setups because they want to go lower but they also don't want to smash subframe on every dip in the road
