  • audi d2 s8/a8 questions

    hey all,
i'm thinking of picking up an 02-03 s8. i ran some quick searches on audiworld and the like but didn't really find anything terribly useful -- seems like most people run the h&r coilover setup and the KW v3 is discontinued for this car. is there a setup that'll allow me to roll slammed while static? most of the modded ones i've seen are bagged.

also, is there any way to increase negative camber on these cars?

ideally, i'd like to roll at least as low as my current Q:

sorry for the noob questions -- i've only owned nissans my entire life (old s13 and a q45 now); this would be my first euro (well, my old man owns a d3 a8, but that's completely stock).

    thanks in advance!

The 97-03 A8 suspension is nearly identical to the B5 Passat, A4 and A6 (different spring rates), so there should be a large selection of manufacturers you can choose from, to name a few besides KW and H&R would be FK, B&G, Weitec and probably Eibach and Koni should make sets as well.

B&Gs go low as shit and are independently height adjustable with 18-way damping adjustability. Have had them on my MkV GTI for almost 20k now no issues and love them. Roll with them full stiff all the time too... FKs go low too but don't offer the adjustability of B&G.

sorry to dispute that but as a former owner of a '98 A8 i will tell you that the suspension is NOT the same as the passat or A4/A6 the front upper control arms are twice the size and the rear suspenion on these cars is totally different unlike the A4/A6 the spring sits seperate from the shock. i ran H&r coils on my car, and it was somewhats low on 19's, your problem is not the front it's the rear becuase it's not adjustable in the back so your best bet is to chop a coil off or remove the big rubber spring pad. Bottom line is you MUST use D2 a8 coils and you can buy H&R from either Tirerack or ECS tuning who also has FK's

ah, thanks. has anybody tried to go coilover on just the shock mount? i know people have done it with certain cars (F50 Q45, Y34 M45 come to mind).

            thanks again!

andre, are those 19's? thanks for the photos. hmm... ideally, i'd like to tuck rim in the rear on 19's, so it looks like this platform may not be for me. thanks everybody for the help!
