  • Low Ball Rally (SoCal ---> SOTU) Route Poll

Low Ball Rally. Friday, October 22nd. Stance of the Union. October 23rd.

Yeah, it's happening.... We'll be departing SoCal early Friday morning giving us plenty of time to make our way up to Sacramento! I'll be setting rally-points along the way, dependent on the route we decide on. There will be t-shirts, stickers, and everything else you'd expect out of a long caravan, so let's start talking about details!

The purpose of this thread is to vote on and discuss the route we'll take... Either is fine by me!

Option 1) I-5N Basically a direct route just under 400 miles from Los Angeles with a travel time just over 6 hours. An extremely "boring" route with very little scenery but would save 2 hours in travel time over option 2.

Option 2) 101N passing the SF/Oakland area and over to Sacramento Just over 500 miles from Los Angeles with an expected travel time over 8 hours. A more scenic route and would allow us to pick up/meet with the Bay-Area people on our way over but adds at least an extra 2 hours to the drive plus the possibilities of partial toll roads

I would prefer option 2 since I originally planned on driving to sf thursday and then to SOTU friday night so if you cruised through SF I could meet up with you guys for the last part. But if this caravan gets big enough I might change my plans.

The scenic route sounds tight. The main thing that's been concerning me though, which ones the "easier" drive for static cars?

i of all people know which way is best i drove both routes in my ef, the one that is like 2 inches off the ground, i ***** the 101 the 5 actually is really nice after the grapevine, but its all doable, just get ready to hear some tire rub. the 5 has random cracks from cement to asphalt and those are harsh other than that a smooth drive. i say 1

stay on the left lane on the 5 once you're past the grapevine. some of those bridges have crazy expansion joints on the right lane
